You mean aside from the fact that having a pirate station is a criminal offense and broadcasting music you don't have the right to broadcast will get you $millions worth of fines? ('least in the US) Cool idea! Seriously though. If you're going to do a pirate station you need to broadcast on shortwave. I'm interested in broadcasting to my community underground bands that will never be played by clearchannel, so I will probably never have to worry about paying for the right to broadcast, so I can stand to pay for an FCC license and save trouble in the long-run.
Question is though, if you got the short wave equipment, how would they be able to track you really? Blah, doesn't make sense to me, they sell small FM broadcasters (like one's that you hook your computer up to, then tune to the station with the radio in your main room) at a reasionable rate (have a good 100 foot range) and they don't require a license to use. So how would this be much different? So what if I boosted the range 10 miles Ah well, if I get serious about it, I'll go for a license. Intersting info though
I like allot of the music as several others here including: A Perfect Circle (seen them live twice) Primus (seen them twice) Slayer (seen them) Godsmack " " Disturbed " " Alice in Chains " " Maralyn Mansen" " old Metallica " " Korn " " Static X " " NIN STP Weezer Led Zepplin and a buttload more depending on my taste, heck I even like some 80's music once in awhile like The Cars, The Cure, INXS, and The Outfield.
I still listen to progressive rock like I listened to when I was a teen starting in like 1968... Gentle Giant Happy the Man Marillion Hatfield and the North Premiata Forneria Marconi ;aka PFM Robert Wyatt King Crimson Henry Cow Roxy Music Kayak Camel Collage As well as classic rock like Led Zeppelin The Who Kansas Hendrix 10cc Jethro Tull
I mentioned Fear Factory. Even got a quote for ya See?!?!?!?! But yeah I did mention it Good band them (check out WOE, Cars, Damaged. That is, if you haven't allready ).
They can't really, that's why most pirate stations are broadcast via shortwave. The problem with that is that most people don't have shortwave recievers. And the 100ft buggers are legal because they're only 100ft... when you get over 150ft (I think that's what it is) is when you have to have a license according to the FCC (Note that these aren't necissarily the same in Canada).
I have dude.. before they became big ::EDIT:: then again they arent _THAT_ big really anyways.. so I saw them back at the beginning. Possibly one of the best gigs I have ever been too.. they were in with the crowd speaking to all of us in the intermission and during the support band.
