I'm rather new to the UK and am looking to go to a few good shows "close" to where I live. I live about 30 minutes from Cambridge and 30 minutes from Norwich (smack dab in the middle). I want to see metal/hardcore/punk/rock bands. If I'm not exhausted and covered in sweat its not the type of show that I want to go to. NO POP MUSIC!

Where are some good places to check out?

    thanx

Yeah, UEA is probably the best place... its prob a bit further than either of those two but we've got some bands coming to Essex University (Colchester) in May, namely Biffy Clyro and Million Dead </shameless plug>

I've not been personally, but I've heard some very good things about the Ferryboat in Norwich.

Its not bad, a little small being just a pub back room and drinks arent that cheap (for a pub) either, the riverside is close and lloyds is cheap so worth a pre-gig stop off.

I find that unless you know the band/what style of music the bands are playing before hand you've got no idea what your gonna see.

Rawkus @waterfront is a better choice IMO.
