Hey, any one ever painted a mx700 mouse? What would be the ebst way to do it? Or is anyone willing to paint the mouse for me. Not fully, just the silver bit. Of course i will pay
I have the corded version of that mouse design that I'll be painting soon to match my project. I'm gonna use a sprayable black rubber coating, which leaves a nice leathery finish and needs no clearcoating. If you're going to use regular paint, be sure that you'll be able to acheive a nice hard finish that won't be gummy under your palm. I'd follow the steps of one of the tried and true modders like Crimson (he rattle-can painted an MX1000 in the Doom3 thread, with some sweet fading) or Linear's AWESOME painting guides @ http://case-mods.linear1.org/category/painting/ Good luck...and be sure to throw up some pics when you get it done!
I'm interested in painting my mx700, too. Can you tell me more about this rubbery finish? I'd like to test it out.
The stuff's called Plasti-Dip, and I found it in the spray paint aisle of the local Lowe's. It comes in sprayable and paint can for dipping, and multiple colors. If you google I think you can find an official site with some color swatches. My hunch is the dip stuff would come out with a smooth texture. I tested out the sprayable stuff and it left a nice leathery feel. It's pretty rugged against scratches (i painted my thumbdrive and it's held up pretty nice over the last week). The only problem areas are sharp corners exposed to wear. I thumbnailed an edge and was able to finally crack the stuff. Once you get it going, it kinda peels off like a skin...but keep in mind I didn't sand the drive at all, just took it outside and gave it about 5-6 coats. If you're careful with your mouse, you should be golden. Incidently, I think I saw a thread on this site or a similar one where I guy had sprayed his mouse with a combo of gloss black and this stuff, and the contrast came out real nice. I'll see if I can dig it up Happy Modding.
Word of warning when using the plastic-dip stuff...be careful when you pull off the masking material. I tested it out some more last night, and when I went to pull off the mask, it took some of the plastic up on the parts that weren't masked. You'll have to use a fine xacto blade or something to cut around the mask before you remove it.
