Lol thanks guys for you comments, just wanted to ask , fenrir or hyper 212? remember i only want a max oc of 3.8, not some 5.6 stuff using dry ice
Hey folks, Myself and ferrero are friends and came up with the build together, I'll be going for essentially the same build as well: phenom II x4 955 / x6 1055t msi 870c45 / asus m4a87td evo/ m4a88td-v evo usb3 sammy f3 1tb cm sp 700w m gold cm 690II lite sony optical 24x corsair xms3 4gb 1600 c9 / 8gb titan fenrir gold gtx 460 1gb But have a few questions and figured I'd stick in here rather than creating a fresh thread on the same topic: -will either of the asus boards provide better overclocking room? -whilst I know a phenom 1055t six core cpu when overclocked would perform the same as the 955 gaming wise, is it possible it could last longer do you think (ie, be still viable when games begin to make use of more than 4 cores)? -will there be a noticeable difference in gaming and photo-editing with 8gb instead of 4? Thanks bm
Well you mostly came up with the build tbh Originally i was going to go along with a 775 socket build using my old pc as a scrap part starting block, then it decided to blow up creating a conundrum know as project 955 (1055 in Barney's case) and thus this build was born!
Bump + Update!!!!!!!!!! Bought my self a 8800 GT from Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280617248550#ht_500wt_1156 (admin remove link if it isn't allowed please!) Apparently runs hot yet is a good GPU for source games (ill be running them at 1440x900) and other games.
Thanks george, also puts off the pressure of trying to find another graphics card and gives me a more round budget to work with now EDIT Murray, how good of a bargain? I was originally gunning for a 4850 at around £50. To me it didn't look as good as the other 8800s since it doesn't have the cover (if it ever had one) but will do the job perfectly for css and perhaps pro-mod cod4 if i can get back into that as well
ITEMS BOUGHT! Hopefully my new items will arrive on monday, perhaps with my 8800 gt as well if i get lucky! However, the motherboard i got has no on board graphics, does this mean i have to wait to put my 8800 gt in to actually see something? Or will it just take some ram and cpu and make a low res screen for now. Thanks in advance!
I'm afraid the motherboard won't have a dvi/VGA/hdmi output so you will have to wait untill the 8800gt arrives.
With my x4 955, so far at stock voltage, it's happy at 3.6ghz but I think it can do more and I haven't had the time. I think anandtech had 3.8 on stock. So not many volts will be needed to go to 3.8 and beyond, hopefully.
UPDATE: Due to my Mums (yes im in secondary school) bank account being a D*** none of the order yesterday went through, so today, just now, i redid the order however the motherboard was not in stock so i am free to change the motherboard to an alternative however i will be doing to build either on monday (when everything hopes to be at the house) or on the next weekend... so... any ideas for a AM3 ATX mobo anyone?
Its that MSI 870-45 im sure for £47 so around £50 quid will be great. Also i could message scan and ask for an ETA for a restock as they seem to be popular Also thanks for the quick reply
