Do your fingers cramp when you do these things? Laptop repair always makes my fingers hurt. And nice job on the touch screen.
I'd say the pressure of the situation gets to me more... I laugh inside when I can feel myself beginning to sweat during intensely tricky connections.
I get about 1.5-1.75hrs with everything on and running loaded @ 1035mhz w/ 60% fan, but I'll never run all the devices at once. On average I'd estimate about 2.5hrs. As for weight... it's an inconsequential amount, but you've got me curious now. I have an unmodded eeePC arriving next week, I'm modding for a customer, I'll compare the weight differences for you then. I purchased a 20,000mah 74wh external laptop battery on eBay. It outputs the usual 12/16/19 volts which means that I had to get a car charger to step down the 12v to 9.6v. It also has a 5v USB port for charging phones and cameras and the swarm of USB powered products out there today. It was a little pricy at $119.89 USD delivered but it works great; gives me about 4hrs(loaded @ 1080mhz)-7hrs(idle @ 1080mhz) on it's own, with the factory battery removed all together.
Eating of the forbidden fruit, I got a new ProMac yesterday. Overwhelmed with excitement I had to announce my jump to the darkside. With the Mac comes pics of my workstation.
Dude! What have you done?! (you) (turn cold sholder) (Me) Just kidding bro. I used to dream of having a Mac because they had sooo much raw power. That was until I realized that you don't have to buy a Dell or HP (for example) retail from the shop. No. There is actually a whole community out there that build them sooo much cheaper! Apple rip you off IMO. I just checked there NZ site and for every 2GB of DDR2 800MHz RAM you add NZD$830. With the Mac Pro holing up to 32GB of RAM, that's a total of over NZD$15,000 (because at 32GB they use 8x4GB RAM modules) just for the RAM!!! I can buy a 4GB stick for NZD$200!!! How exactly can they justify it?
Love the mods Langer. I'm seriously considering grabbing me an Eee PC as a "grab-and-go" laptop, so seeing your mods has helped me think. CC
Niiiice. Have you seen any higher-res 7" screens available anywhere? The only thing holding me back from modding my eeePC is the crappy res on the screen.
The screen is capable of running 1024x768 (and better yet, 1000x600). Here is a video I made of my eeePC swapping resolutions on the on-board LCD. On that note, I usually run mine on an external screen running 1280x1024. The eeePC 900 series has a 9" LCD that runs 1024x768 natively. If you're interested in eeePC mods, I suggest checking out eeeUser.com - here is my thread.
Its hardly the same as having a real res 1000x600 screen though. I only very sparingly ran it in those non-native resolutions. Work has been done putting a 900 screen in a 701, and while it works, a BIOS modification is required to get it working properly and nobody has been able to do it yet. Not to mention the physical mods required to fit the screen.
True, but it works in a pinch. And at 1024x768 the screen isn't very legible. And a big thanks to all the supporters!
My postage scale says my 701 weighs exactly 2 pounds. You using that Mac as a space heater? The dual 2.5Ghz G5 I have sitting in the rack down in my garage has an inlet temp of 86F and a back side temp of 119F. Though both processors are maxed out running folding at home.
consider spinning the 22in screens around so they portrait style next to the 46in. i think they would line up nice that way. maybe mount the 19in screen side by side above the 46in
I was thinking something very similar. If anyone else is interested in eeePC mods, I documented this one as well - yet another eeepc mod
