I'd sell the 512MB stick and buy another 1GB.

As I said in your other thread, please use the edit button! It keeps things so much cleaner and helps to avoid angering the mods ;)

I assume you've got a two 1GB modules and one 512MB module? Both of your links are 404s and you didn't specify the configuration in your post.

I would opt for capacity at DDR400 rather than speed at DDR500 in most cases, but 2.5GB of RAM is completely unnecessary for anything you'll be doing. My advice would be to get rid of the 512MB stick and run the 2 1 gigabyte modules, which will give you the advantage of dual-channel. However, if that PC3200 stick isn't performance stuff, the Ballistix will be wasted as its timings will be loosened to match those of the slowest part.

If you don't intend to overclock (which you don't, if I remember correctly), Ballistix is a waste anyway as most value RAM will give you reasonable latencies at PC3200 and more capacity is usually better than speed. Sell that 512MB one and just run the two 1GB sticks.

do you think i should just sell the 1GB PC3200 and the 512mb Ballistix PC4000?

And with the money, purchase another 1gb of the Ballistix Tracer?

It's defiantely an option, probably one of the better ones. That way you can have a matched pair (or two I guess, I'm not totally sure whether your current gig is 2x512) for dual channel.

Ideally, you will have 2 or four modules, all the same size, so you can take advantage of dual-channel. If your current 1GB is a single 1GB stick, attempt to get hold of another 1GB stick. If your current 1GB is two 512MB modules, you should either try to get hold of another two 512MB sticks or sell it all and buy two 1GB sticks.

    So the answer to:
    is yes.
