I just got my new comp today with everything, and after i reformatted the harddrive it wouldnt go to setup windows it just gives me an error, does anyone know what i should do?
What error? Is the error during posting in BIOS, or when you try to install windows? We're going to need a little more information that that.
Well there isnt any errors now, it just keeps telling me to insert the setup diskette into drive a:, and i dont even have anything plugged into drive a... i dont even have a floppy disk drive
You need to go into your BIOS and change your boot sequence so that you boot from your CDrom 1st. Then insert the windows disk and boot from it and you'll be fine.
I just got my comp yesterday, it was custom built by my buddy and me, i got up to the point where it should boot up so i can install windows XP(after i reformatted and got the install files on the hd already). But then it keeps telling me to insert your operating system setup diskette in drive a:, but i dont even have a floppy drive plugged in or even ahve one in the house..
So, you format your hd, and copy the installation files onto that hd? Things don't work like that. You need a XP install CD, and boot from it, that will install XP to your hard drive. So, Get a cd, go in your bios, place CDROM as primary boot device, reboot, and let the magic do it's thing
Ya most comps will bout from cd right of the getgo mine did. Just insert the disk when it prompts inserting anything. If not just reset bios and do whatever these people have told you.
You don't wait for prompts at all? Once the hard drive has been formatted, you insert the XP CD, then reboot the computer, and it'll boot from the XP CD automatically As already mentioned though... the boot order has to be set (in the BIOS) so the system looks for a bootable CD/DVD, before it loads files from the HDD. Mine is always set in order of floppy drive, CD then HDD.
