Right then, my new rig isnt performing quite as good as i hoped it to be...maybe my expectations were too high but i think my 1 Gig of ram is a problem. Anyway here goes my spec. Antec Neo 430W PSU Gigabyte 965P DS3 Intel core 2 duo E6400 @ stock [2X2.13Hhz] Leadtek 7600GT OC Corsair Value Select 1GB[2x512mb] 667Mhz DDR2 So yeah would i see a huge jump in performance if i stuck another 1 Gig of 667mhz into it? Thanks
I don't think it could hurt, esp. if you have dual channel... What progs are underperforming for you?
Not starting up as fast...games i.e. BF2 just arent quite what i expected...and i know BF2 is a ram hungry game... I dont know just in general i wouldve expected better....
I think BF2 loading times are related to HDD performance. Slow startup is probably due to you having a lot of programs starting at start time. Often, network adapters cause quite a delay at boot time. Try disabling any network adapters you aren't using. Out of interest, how many processes do you have running after a reboot before you run any programs? If its much more than around 30, you could probably stop a lot of them that you don't need.
this rig is a week old so not much! Its a Western digital Caviar 160GB 8mb cache. ok ill look at startup processes.
Ensure you're using the latest BIOS and drivers (esp mobo & gfx). 1GB RAM shouldn't be cutting it fine although more is obviously merrier, despite the recent releases 7600GT is a fast gfx card, plus I assume 7600GT 'OC' is even faster, C2D @2.13ghz should be similar to A64-X2 @2.4ghz ... none of these components should be holding you back. Double check BIOS settings; I'm not obscure ones but things like RAM running at full speed etc. What was your setup before the upgrade?
hmm strange... if its just start-up then maybe you should re-install your game, other than that whats your benchmark scores? whats your fps on bf2 also? i was able to play battlefield 2 before i sent my gfx card in and i believe my fps at the time was i think 115 or something i cant really remember but other than that i remember having a slow start-up as well but the word "slow" is different to many people, it was a good 5 seconds for me i think.
