After alot of research and using the build recommendations from the website, I have come up with this gaming rig for my own personal needs. Please let me know what you think! Budget: Not quite unlimited. I want to build something that doesn't break the bank, but is fairly future proof for my intentions. Somewhere around $3000 US for everything Main uses of intended build: Gaming (World of Warcraft, Modern Warfare series, Civ 5, etc) Parts required: Everything!!! Monitor resolution: Going with the Dell U2410 for the TCN panel and ratio. Storage requirements: I figure 256GB SSD and a 2TB HDD should keep all my gaming and media happy. Will you be overclocking: YES (I have never overclocked myself, so I will look to friends/internet for guidance) Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers): I don't use alot of unusual peripherials, so I probably won't need alot of extra requirements. Possibly 2-SLI in the future depending on gaming engine releases. Extra information about desired system: Case - Silverstone RV02B-W (Future proof, I love the simplicity of the case and all the fans. I realize it is a bit pricey, but it suits my needs) CPU - 3.3GHz Intel Core i5-2500K (O/C to around 4.6-4.8) Motherboard - **Changed to ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z Z68** (Bit-tech premium player build recommendation) Memory - Corsair Vengeance 8 GB ( 2 x 4 GB ) DDR3 1600 MHz Graphics Card - EVGA GTX 580 1.5GB SC (I know I can get a better SC myself, but a factory OC suits me just fine. Because this is a future proof build, I intend to add another one in the future for SLI) PSU - Corsair AX850 (Future proofing in the event I want to get another Graphics Card down the road) CPU Cooler - Thermaltake Frio(Best aircooler based on your reviews) Optical drive - Plextor PX-B940SA (I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it) Storage (SSD) - 256GB Crucial M4 (Windows 7 64-bit plus all of the games I could think of) Storage (HDD) - Caviar Black 2TB (Lots of pron..I mean movies) Sound Card - Asus Xonar DX (no issues with the RealTek onboard) Monitor - Dell U2410 (based on a previous post for a great gaming monitor) Keyboard - Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (I have used one before and I like the way it feels) Mouse - Razer Deathadder Black (I have one and I love it) Headphones - Razer Carcharias (Good reviews, decent price, and they don't look cheap) Speakers - Logitech Speaker System Z520 (I like the look/price and I don't need a subwoofer) I appreciate all the feedback/comments/idea that this thread will generate. I am open to ideas about the motherboard. I have all the tools already, and I have built my own desktop in the past. FYI I am responding your posts, but because a moderator has to approve everything I write for some reason, my responses aren't getting through. Bummer!!! Thanks!
Only thing I see wrong is the motherboard, you may struggle to find it as Z68 seems to be taking over Other than that, awesome build Oh and if you see a man dressed in a full ninja outfit coming through your window and asking for all your money it isn't me
Yeah I had a feeling the motherboard would be the only drawback to my build. I am open to suggestions. I am in the US Army, and I am always armed...coming through my window might not be a great idea!!!
It look perfect. Although the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro is more powerfull. Depends if you want to spend the extra.
I thought the USA couldn't get it, that's why Bit-Tech still recommend the Frio on the buyer's guide?
Small addition: I would definitely get proper case fans. Case fans that comes with the case, sucks. They vibrate heavily and contribute in making your computer sound like a jet reactor at idle. For ultra quietness first, my recommendations are Noctua fan. They are extremely quiet, and high quality fans. They are a bit in the expensive side, but if you don't plan to overclock your CPU to max of the max, then they great (it's always a trade off: cooling vs noise, unless you buy crappy fans, which provide very low air flow and lots and lots of noise). In the case you choose not to change the fans, I height suggest to eat least get rubber fan screws: Looks like this or or alike They are the same, just different company, different patent They are a pain to install, but the results are phenomenal in reducing fan noise. I would get an extra 1 or 2 sets (depending on the number of fans you have) of 4, in the case you brake one while trying to install it (as it involves pulling the rubber screw thing, and sliding the fan hole in it.
looks good.. for that kind of money could go with 3 monitors though =] bulldozer is out soon too.. I like intel though- almost like they're competing with themselves last couple years @goodbytes yeah I use those too!
So you think the Asus P8Z68-V PRO would be a better mobo in the long term? I checked the reviews, and it seems to be right on par with the Sabertooth but $50 cheaper.
goodbytes knows his stuff, so i hate to go against his advice, but the fans are air penetrators, and while not the quietest fans out there, they do a tremendous job of keeping your components cool. having said that, going from the p182b to this case i am looking to go a different direction. so, if you want a good deal on that case, message me... on the cpu cooler, i would advise going for the corsair hydro series, or the coolermaster v6 gt...look at some reviews, it peerforms better than the frio and is noticably quieter... edit: if you were absolutely set on the most silent fans out there to replace the air penetrators, i wouldn't imagine you would need to worry too much about how much air the fans move, as the rotation of the mobo aids in the hot air escaping the case in a less restricted manner...
Yes, I agree with you. As I said.. it's either cooling or quietness. But as I mentioned on my second post, if you want to keep the fans, or get better cooling ones, at least get the rubber screws which will help greatly in reducing fan noise, and not affect cooling. Sorry if I was not clear in my previous post.
the frio has some reviews that give it credit on the high end 2600k @ 5ghz 83C that's pretty good.. I just don't like closed loop- the pump fails and you could lose everything in the resulting coolant leak
I am not particularly worried about air noise at the moment. Once I get everything built and judge the noise level and my comfortability with it, then I will make some modifications to the fans as needed. Thank you very much for your feedback, and I will forsure take you up on your consideration to the rubber fan screws.
oh no brother, still solid advice, and ur right, cooling or quiet...didn't notice the advice for the rubber screws were if he kept the penetrators, thought is was in general...
furore, since you cant message i will post in here in case i wasn't clear enough. i just bought my rv-02 bw. i am looking to sell...let me know if ur interested. would take, say, $40 off retail...still have the box
