Its not really a mod, but i just a little peeved I just have to get it off my chest. Had a 10Gig Fujitsu since 2001, its been in my main rig through all the hard and software changes, and today it died Its been running for about a week fine (went 4 days without a reset), then i shut down because i needed the mouse and monitor to plug into my new pooter, that ive bought for my brother and need to set up. All done, plug it all back into my own rig, power up, 'Primary drive not detected' Unplugged everthing, still nothing. The BIOS detects it but returns random info for the size. What really gets me is i havent done anything to it, it worked, i shut down and a day later it wont fire up. Oh well, at least it gives me excuse to buy a nice shiny new one And, as the title says, this is my first dead drive, Ive been lucky and not managed to kill much, the only thing that springs to mind is the keyboard i accidently sent 12V to when hooking it up to my Amiga. A have a Fujitsu 500Mb SCSI drive that still works fine (touch wood) They dont make em like they used to...
That's actually an issue with some MPG-series fujitsu drives, make a bootdisk with the flash utility on http://www.fujitsu.ca/download/hard_drive.html, flash the drive up and it should work again...worth a try anyway edit: btw, the dead drive needs to be connected as pri master. Don't connect any other drives while doing this.
Well it was worth a try but it didnt work It detected it but said to turn the power off and on again, but everytime I did it'd come up with the same message to turn off and on. Kept going around in circles it wouldve been nice to get the stuff off it, but i have a nice new 80gig winging its merry way to me Cheers anyway mate
I had a problem where one of my drives died, and after loading a new primary master and installing Windows, blah blah blah etc I searched around the 'net to see if I could ever get the data off my dead drive. I found a program called GetDataBack and I managed to get almost all of my files off the dead drive, so you might try that (gotta have the old drive connected of course ) Hope that helps, and there are other programs around too, but none worked for me. You can search around for 'em tho. -JP
Thanks for the tip, but its a bit late, because ive always wanted to see whats inside a hard drive hehe Dont think it wouldve worked, the electronics were pretty screwed up, and the fujitsu diagnostics program couldnt detect it. Luckily most of my important files were on my SCSI drives so i didnt lose too much.
