I was doing some construction to my house, and there was this sudden *CRACK* noise, and I went running into my bedroom to find this:

    My wall has moved :waah:

    HOW DO I FIX THIS?!?!?!

Please help me, I need this fixed before my land-lord comes back from vacation!

How did it move? If it moved on it's own then your landlord should be the one that has to fix it not you.
If you caused it by the construction you were doing then you need to get it shifted back and get some tape and spackle to patch it up.
That's one heck of a crack.

On the left is the door, and the 2x4 in the middle should be resting up against the wall there. It's about a 6" gap between the two :waah: I don't know what to do! I was just trying to replace some carpet!

Malfoleo....please tell me you weren't using a powerstretcher... they exert several hundred to thousand pounds of force and you have to be EXTREMELY careful with them as you're gonna move a wall (like you did) or put the foot right through the wall (I've done it before).

Not to be mean....but man, I laughed out loud when I saw this one. Either you have the worse luck in the history of mankind, or you're very imaginitive.

Is that a hole or has the wall actually moved?

If its a hole, what you need is some heavy duty double sided tape, wire mesh with small holes in it (5mm or so) and some plaster, cut the mesh to size, and use the double sided tape to stick it to the wall, then plaster over it.

If the wall actually moved ?!?! then push it into place and nail it at an angle to the opposite panel, usually easier if you start at the bottom (wall to floor nailing).

Maybe your house is falling apart? Could you get some clearer pics?

EDIT: It seems to me that the wall is extremely weak. In the UK most houses are rock solid!

Need more detail. What were you doing? Did you just push the wallboard out/in or did you move the house off the foundation??

Judging from the picture it looks as if he actually pushed a good portion of the wall backwards which would happen if he did as I said in my previous post. If this is the case, then the best solution to fix it would be to push the wall back into place, screw/nail it to resecure it, and then either fix or replace the drywall.

Agreed to a point. If that is indeed the case, you may need to put up a daughter board to shore up a busted or cracked stud. Once the wall is straight, then it's simple to re-rock and finish the wall off. The key is if there is any damage inside the wall...

Put a picture over it, noone will ever know....

Rather more seriously, I think you are gonna need a pro to fix that up. Do you beleive that YOU caused the crack?

Bloody hell, you did that? Or was it just co-incidental when you were doing some moving around that it just broke? Maybe you're living in a shoddy house :p

On another note, why are most American houses made from only wood on the top half? Don't they break a lot? (Sorry if this isn't the case btw, it's all we see in the media etc).

A lot of them are just wood, haven't heard of any breaking that I know of.

I tried doing what you said, and it just made it worse :waah:

I started to push the wall over, and all of a sudden the door and a lot of the drywall just came falling down all around me! I don't know what to do! I just wanted new carpet :waah:

What exactly were you doing? Alot of people asked and you still havnt awnsered. I dont get how you could of caused it if you were in a totally different room (you said you ran from somewhere into that room and noticed the huge crack). Something to cause that much damage has to mean you broke a suport beam somewhere and that wall seperated till the house could hold the weight again. I would get a professional again or 'cause it on an earthquake' (if your near a place that..has earthquakes). Of course you could just be like "Umm..i dont know what happened.." But be sure to hide your other construction work!

I really wanna know what you did to cause that HUGE crack in the wall..that thing has to be atleast 4-8 inches thick.

So tell us, just how exactly did you manage to do this? It'd be in your best interest to call a contractor ASAP. That wall could be a load baring wall (although I doubt it is).
