Well, when I first got my Itron VFD I said I would take some better photos when I got my new camera... I've got the camera and also remade the bezel. I had planned to make the cutout (which was milled out) about 25mmx85mm but I got a bit carried away and it ended up a bit bigger (approx. 120mmx30mm). I think it looks pretty good with the cutout the size it is. The filter is the dark blue one available from Maplin (QZ71N). Unlike the filter supplied with the kit the dark blue from Maplin gives the display a much stronger blue colour and I would highly recomend it. As with my last bezel the filter and display were attached using double-sided carpet tape. The blank milled bezel Apply Double-sided carpet tape (it's like double-sided Duck tape) Carefully cut round the hole So the tape isn't covering the window Peel off the backing and stick the filter to it. Attach the VFD in the same way and all done! You can also use bolts stuck to the inside of the bezel (using something like araldite) to mount the VFD but I've found the tape does the job just as well. If you are thinking of making your own bezel I suggest you have a look at this If you've never seen one of these before have a look at the review And now for you viewing pleasure a view of the whole case.
Dude... that looks really sweet, clean job too... Well done there... Did I notice website pimpage on that VFD too...
Very nicely done mate I just got my VFD - but I got the larger one You serious 'bout using double sided sticky tape to attach the VFD to the gel stuff which in turn is stuck to the blanking plate I would have thought it too heavy and if it's that's sticky how do you get it off again ? Anyway, I'm going to get me some of that gel stuff from Mappers as I was a tad dissapointed with the stuff supplied - still too green looking for my liking. Cheers, CC
Can't remember how much I payed... it was the special offer price, I got it right at the beginning from Itron UK.
Anyone get one of those that's from the US? I've always wanted to hear an actual (not approximate) price on those - I'm loving my B.G. Micro but I'm wanting a graphic VFD now..
