http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-051-OK&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1833 I was going to get another 8800 gt and restart my folding but at £70, I think this is a bargain. Now I have to talk her into getting me a 2nd ^^
That is not a bargain. I have 2 of those in both of my dual card folding machines, and paid less than £40 each for all four of them.
I think the only reason someone might buy one is to own an iconic graphics card. Its a shame that I ended up with the 8800 GTS 320 instead of the GTX back in 2007.
Well in SLI they still pull up quite a bit of grunt. Although for 70 quid, that's a bit steep. With that said, nothing really is that fast at that price point anyhow.
4 Years old card ? Its just a point of view, another is to say that the 8800GTX was rebranded as 9800GTX and GTS250. Its not a bargain of course but its not a waste. Moreover, who is this girl who give a GC to his boyfriend ? Make Her a bit-tech account !!!!
actually not quite true. 8800GTX is based on the legendary G80 graphics cores with more memory bandwidth. while 9800GTX, GTS250 are based on G92 cores, which has less memory bandwidth, but tweaked shader cores. 8800GTX is a legendary card, for £70 is a bit steep, but it should still be able to beat 9800GTX, GTX250, or may be even 5750 at high resolutions. i used to have one, and it was amazing.
She is a lovely one. I should encourage her to join here, she would enjoy it. I would have to disagree with the point of view of a few of you. I've paid for expensive high end cards before. I have 2 7950gx2 cards doing nothing. I bought them because I could, now I only buy what I need and I needed something to replace a dead 8800gt. I don't need a 480, I just need something cheap and as powerful as possible, hence the 8800gtx.
