Hi there! Ive been reading the bit-tech forums for over a year now, and i registered just 5mins ago! Im a Finnish guy who likes to build scratch and mod comp cases, likes to benchmark, gaming and PC hardware. This is my first post here at bit-tech so forvige me if i did write somthing wrong! But now to the build, im getting an eVGA SR-2 Classified mobo at friday, so pics then. But a little planning. Ive only ordered the mobo and Antec TwelveHundred Ultimate Gamer case, so i have to decide what CPUs, DDR3 and PSU. I was hoping that someone here can help me? Things i got/ordered: ATi (AMD) Radeon HD 5970 2GB (Club 3D) eVGA Classified SR-2 Antec 1200 1x Noctua NH-D14 And things i need: 2x Xeon E/L/X 55XX or 55XX series CPUs 6x2gb DDR3 1333/1600 CL7 (will probably be G.Skill or Corsair) +1000W PSU But i need help choosing two CPUs, that wont be worse than my AMD 1090T BE gaming rig. My budget is around 400-600euros for 2x CPU and DDR3 mem. I dont have to buy everything at the same time, i can buy like one CPU and 3x2gb DDR3 now, and the other DDR3 kit and CPU later... But i got to get this monster running before 2.2.2011 because im going to win a Fastest PC competition at Assembly, Finlands biggest LAN party..
I don't think the SR2 fits in the Antec 1200 Also, as far as i know the SR2 only takes Xeons so you won't get the two CPUs plus RAM for 400
Just before sandy bridge lol (due out any second).... and why that Gcard? If it was my money i would of gone with a GTX580 if i was spending that sort of money. you will also find it hard to get compatible case's for that motherboard as well..... And you will be paying well over £1500-£1600 for your 2 CPU's that motherboard can accept.... You will not be able to get any ware close to completing your build on 400euro!!!!! Rule 1#: do your research before spending tuns of money..... Your tell me
My friend has an 1200 and we measured a little... It will fit if i use my dremel The SR-2 takes only one Xeon too, it mustnt be two of them.. hmm.. It looks like i have to sell my 1090T gaming rig.. Xeons that do sme improvement to my old rig costs +500e/pcs ... 3x2 DDR3 ~200e +1kW PSU ~200e But doesnt the big Antec PSUs fit in the 1200 case? If it does, i can save 50e on the PSU
You will also need another HSF, and a PSU with two 8 pin plugs. You cold blow your budget on the ram alone
Jaysus. To be honest though, if you're considering the SR-2, you shouldn't be worried about money. You should be sticking in two X5680s and four GTX 580s.
But the Xeons are always so heavily priced Well, there must be some other CPUs than the X5680?? But the most X56XX are the same, intel has just locked their multi, am i right? Bout the gpu; i bought the 5970 for my AMD machine, and if i wasnt selling that i would buy a pair of the 580GTX cards.. But because im selling the AMD machine i got to keep everything i can to save money.. But if i sell the whole PC, i would probably get around 1200-1500e for it, would it be enough for 2x xeon, DDR3, PSU and some cheapo GPU (just temporarily(did i spell it right!????)) Thanks!
Yeah I only know of 3 case's that will take that mobo has to have 9 PCI slots. One is a mountain Mods which I have, Scan did one I think I cant remember the make of that one. And the other I dont think you can buy yet.
all 5 case's.. lol! im sorry -JP-, i feel for you dude... hope you get lots of money (£3000 or more) for xmas that will make this all better
Bit-tech suggested a pair of 5650s, but those cost 700£ each. There are also there 5620s at 300£ each, but I have no idea as to their relative performance. My guess is they should be plenty fast, but you probably want to do a google search and look for reviews of those CPUs and people who had more experience with the SR2. Best case scenario, CPU's alone will set you back 600£, if not 1400-1500. I'm not sure how those prices compare to Finland. Ram got much cheaper recently so that should not be much of a problem. PSU? Something like the Corsair AX1200. Still I think it will be really hard for you to fit all those parts within your budget.
@ -JP- Not going to rank on you for buying what you want to buy, but your bubble does need some bursting. There really isn't a "cheap" SR-2 build... Since you said you like benching; you're going to be looking for the top "everything" on the shopping list and those parts add up real quick when you're talking double everything. RAM alone; for benching, you're looking at something at least in the PC3-12800 (1600MHz) range with CL 7 and a 6GB kit like that will run you in the range of $250 to $350 depending on the brand. You need two of them... So $500 to $700 gone. And you still need two xeons; those will run you a couple thousand right there. Add to that a 1200W PSU --> $250 to $350... Add 4 GPUs (because why would you have a dual xeon setup with just one or two GPUs)... That's another $2 thousand The list just keeps going... Truly... Any SR-2 build you attempt; you will be looking at at least $4K to $5K for a starter SR-2 build. and ... Say you want to watercool that thing... Bump it another $2K.
hmm.. But ... If ill buy a pair of E5620 ~800e Antec TP Quattro 1,2kW (rebranded Evga SR2 PSU) 180e (on sale now, ordered it anyway ) 6x2gb Corsair DDR3 1333mhz CL7 180e 1200e, will this setup be any better than my 1090T rig? Btw, what is the difference between DDR3 and DDR3 ECC ? DDR3 ECC seems much cheaper..
