I had the same sort of problem with a maxtor on my old mobo, check your startup, does the Detecting IDE... detect a ....30 or a .....60 drive?

Try the Maxtor website there's an Ez-Bios software there, worked a treat.

That's right. EZ-BIOS (they renamed it as EZDrive now) will make your system detect the whole capacity of the drive.

Cannot wait to get bigger Hdds myself, like two 60 or better, onboard raid on this MSI 845 ultra will be great, just to run it

sorry about the length, bit of a rant

Ok this is a little late but...

Please bare this is mind. Maxtor are no good for running on Primary Slave.

I once brought a 40gb maxtor bout 2 months after they came out i paid over £190! got it home pluged it in to my old PII 400 system and... it worked... or so I thought. I was only recognising 33GB. Oh dear (must piont out that this was on Primary Slave, my old 8GB was Master). I only noticedthis about 3months after buying it and I was faced with Read/Write BSOD. so I phone up Irelend (the nearest customer support) after 3days of trying I got through to them.
    Them:
"Welcome to Maxtor Support Hoe Can I help"
    Me:
"Hi good morning, I've got a problem with my HDD"
    Them:
    "OK sir what is it"

The convo went on me giving them the drive serial and model numbers and so on. I was then told I need to use there Maxtor low level format tool. So i hung up and did just that.
Lost everything of course (knew i would).

Phoned them backand said "Hi it didn't come up with any errors"
    Them:
"Well there is nothing wrong with your drive"
    Me:
    "Of course there bloody is!"

After about 5mins they decided to send me a replacement drive.
The same problem happend with this one, phoned them back and got another, the same problem, at this point I though it mihgt of been my system so I brought my new system the one in my sig.
Oh the same problem with this drive on this system! Ok this board supports somthin like a 1TB can't be the board.

I phoned them again (rember this is an international call).
    ME:
"Right this is the last straw I want a full refund of this drive of £194.81"
    Them:
"Sorry sir we cannot do that we can only replace the drive"
    Me:
    "Fine send me another model"
    Them:
    "We can't do that"

To cut this short I argued my case and surrgessted that there may be a problem with that model of drive. The women tried to get me to accept a 40gb 5400rpm drive but when you paid over £190 for a 7200rpm I refused and said "you can send the next model up to this one". The women tried to argue that the 5400rpm drive would be faster.

So I've now got a 60gb drive that works! Yay! But my advice is buy from a high street not from Insight.

And make sure that you deal with maxtor in the most ignerant way possible.
