Hi all,

After much help and some great debates from this forum I have bought

Shuttle SN25P
1 Gig or Corsair Value RAM
AMD athlon venice 3500+ CPU
Geforce 6200 Turbo GFX.

I am trying to buy my PC without credit and so am buying so much a payday.

Next month I plan to upgrade the GFX card.

I must say the 6200 runs Earth 2160 on full eyecandy (everthing on 4x aa 16 x af)???
I thought medium would be best at best. Im going to try and check the frame rate, any ideas how.
I never expected the 6200 to be so good and it has me questioning do I really need a 7800GTX????

Your views and a lenghty argument as ever always appreciated

Aditional -

A friend just made me awares of a piece of software called FRAPS that messures Frames per second.

With everything on @ 1600x1200 I was getting 4 or 5

With everything off at the lowest res with my monitor set to aspect so I can even see the postage sized picture Im getting 30

hehe, i was going to say fraps to see how many frames you were getting.
30fps isnt that bad, but can cause slow downs sometimes. but 4-5 is really bad.
im guessing the 700gtx is back on now though

I coludnt tell that the frame rate was so low as I had a migrane from looking at it

IS FRAPS an accurate piece of software then?

Must say im over the moon with my shuttle. needs the GFX upgrade though.

Ob the subject of ram, I hear if your not overclocking then there's no need for anything expensive. Is this true?

are you mad running a game at that rez with that card!!
im sure its good at 800x600 but not at what you want matey.....and yes fraps is a very popular method of finding FPS ingame....yes on the ram side..if it works then leave it...

 

Well.

FRAPS is probably taking up a good amount of cpu/memory usage so the fps monitor may not be completely correct. Mine was lower on my old pc when i used fraps to measure FPS.

I just tried to run what I could. My old card wouldnt ever load the game ful stop (400 mx)

i heard the only time you spend cash on ram is to OC. However OCing on a shuttle is ment to be not for the faint harted so ive left it alone.

 

SVA - as long as its a good approx that will do for me.

Correct, you can get no frills 2gig kits for good money these days.
