hehe I heard good things about ramming a screwdriver into the cpu while your benching 3dmark- the extra juice from the short will get you a couple hundred points =] gl with the build!
Alright! Nice! Remember, we are always here ready to help you if you have any trouble. Enjoy your kick-ass system Here are some helpful tips: - Take your time. - Carefully read your motherboard instruction manual. - Never touch any contact pins when you handle anything. - Be sure to be grounded when you do it. No I don't mean getting in trouble and having your parents ground you, I mean electrically discharged. You don't want to break your new computer. What I do, is simple, wash your hands... as water touches the cooper pipes and touches the ground, it should ground you. - Cable management is key. Remember a cable managed computer is a happy computer. Basically try your best to not have any cables on the way, of your computer case air flow, to maximize the fresh air coming in your computer, to have a nice cool environment for your components. Can you beat me? - http://pages.infinit.net/eps/build/IMG_4124.JPG - http://pages.infinit.net/eps/case1.JPG Of course you can - Don't apply force for anything, unless you are 10000000000000000000% sure. - Don't forget top set the date and time in your BIOS before installing Windows, and that if you don't have a floppy drive, to disable it in the BIOS, if it's not already. - When your computer is fully installed, don't close the case just yet. Turn it on and make sure EVERY fan spins. If not, cut the power immediately, and make sure the fan is connected correctly. - When you are ready to go, and Windows Vista/7 64-bit is installed, and your drivers for your motherboard, sound card, network, graphic card, and anything else you have (CPU, HDD, optical drive, monitor, don't have or need drivers) it's time for stress test! Stress test is there to ensure that everyone component is working properly, that your computer doesn't shutdown on you, or have any over heating issue. Stress testing is a time consuming process, I recommend to do it for 1 hour. That means stress your CPU and GPU at the same time. Once done, if you are very patient, get MemTest86 (you need to put it on a USB key or burn a disk, as this program needs to run outside of Windows. You need to boot from it), which will scan your RAM for any problems. A simple scan should do. If everything pass, your computer should be problem free. Be sure to always get the latest drivers from the manufacture website (that mean Nvidia.com for your graphic card, and not EVGA, for example). Hope this helps!
Two threads about the same build within 3 hours? Umm yeah we can see you're excited... Looks like a decent budget gamer to me.
I hope the 700W PSU is of a decent brand. If it is some generic 700W, you'd better of ditching that and go for a quality decent branded 500W PSU instead. Also, I would suggest you get a decent CPU cooler, as you will need to do some heavy overclocking to close to getting playable frame rate for Crysis: Also, you would have to overclock the GTX460 1GB to as high as possible, the closer to 5870 the better.
Crysis is not game, it's a benchmark... the only game that is impossible to run perfectly smoothly with a today 2000$ system (assuming you get quality parts) I would not worry about it. Also, he said that his PSU is a cooler-master. I never knew they made PSU's, but there you go.
Good luck with the new build and have fun. Its worth looking at this website for a 'how to build a pc' article. There are some very good ones around.
Thank you all for all the advice you gave me, and I ditched my 700W psu because im not ready for it to go derp on me and kill my system so I wen't out and got a 110$ Antec 550Watt modular D) Psu, and the case im using is this http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0308296 The people said everything should work with excellent airflow.
Need additional advice? Anything you want, we are here. If you want the list of possible topics related to your build, that I can think of: computer case, price, keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitors or even webcams....
