as some of you may know i have wanted to do my own mod for a long time now my specs are lian li A70 corsair 550w will be braided asus maxiumus III formula 860 i7 corsair 2x2gb 1600mhz dominator DDR3 evga SC 460gtx and it is going to be water cooled by a 120.3 rad and a 120.2 rad in a single loop anyway because of a few things that have come in the post recently i finally can!! that is a tapping screw of 6-32 and a tapping wrench, as my lian li motherboard holes are M3 holes and they need to be 6-32 for standard motherboard stand offs here is what i came up with, now the stand offs go in!! time to get the jigsaw out and i am too cool for proper eye protection made a nice cut out for my mounting brackets but being a true newbie at modding i did not measure how large i needed the hole so i got some precision work done thats better now i need to go and buy a dremel 300 they are on the black Friday sale which is good for me well thats all folks and thanks for reading my first project log
Glad to see you've got it started mate, You are off to a good start I will have to keep an eye on this one
Ha ha you missed the hole Now I've got that out of the way. It's off to a good start, luckily when you do that it's easy to take a bit out, if it was the other way, putting it back is a right bitch. looking forward to more I'll keep an eye on this one.
thanks jeff and bumsrush i got something in the post today so i can carry on my project so i managed to get the last of the small holes but my new dremel disk doesn't seem to like doing many cuts in quick succession here i am sanding my motherboard tray so that it is ready for painting then i should be able to put some U channel on it should be able to get down to painting tomorrow, done a test sample today to see how that turns out, then i should be able to put on my first coat of primer on my board thanks for checking out my project log
well i started to prime my motherboard try today but it didn't come out so well, as you can see from all the spots it think it isn't going so well because it looks like this out side of my house and the primer tin says only spray when it is between 10-32 degrees so can you give me any tips on how to paint properly without getting lots of spots everywhere just been reading up on the cpc modding masterclass on how to spray paint properly thanks
Bit of a thread revival but got an update. Now that I have finished college i got the summer to do what I want, which means I can get back to this project. I finished painting the motherboard black and putting U channel around the edges along time ago. But today I had to convert my roof panel as it was drilled to fit 120.3 rad with 15mm fan spacing, but my rad has 25mm fan spacing. I am happy with how it came out, you can't tell I did it. Tomorrow I will be sanding my rads to give a stainless steel look hopefully. As I can't be bothered to paint them. Also got some fans, tubing and barbs coming in the post, so I can actually put a water cooling build together.
Looking good M That anodised blue is a killer colour Are you still using the Maxiumus III/i7 860 combo?
Yep the only thing I have upgraded when I first started this project is the ram from 4gb to 8gb. My i7 is powerful enough for me, with water cooling I am hoping of getting some good overclocks. On my old wc set up it got to 4.4GHz with ease, so I am hoping to get 4.5GHz or 4.6GHz, seems I got lucky and got one of the best i7 860. I love the anodized blue as well, just a shame it doesn't go well with the motherboard. But I can get over that. I could if i had time paint the red accents on the board blue.
