I have been making a model of my Q-tec big tower in Sketchup. This is the case I will be using for my next modding project. I have dyed the bezel black, but that's about it. I am going to sand, brush and clear coat the side and top panels for that brushed metal look, and add a window. For lighting I was thinking of maybe using a round, red car light i have. I first worried about heat, but it turns out that it doesn't generate much.
The project will also involve PSU modding. The PSU I am going to use for my new system is very noisy, but I am going to add a temperature controller to the PSU fan, so it doesn't have to run on full speed all the time. And while I'm at it, maybe some LEDs and a little hole for better airflow.
Click the link at the bottom of this post to download the Sketchup file with my case, so you can look at it from all angles. And please suggest names for the project.

Let me know what you think, and feel free to share your ideas :)
By the way, if you don't like the window design, you are free to make a new window in Sketchup, and post the file/pic here!

Name it Hightower. It's tall and black, and reminds me of the dude from Police Academy. :hehe:

I agree about the window; it's sort of boring. If you're planning on modding the PSU, then make sure it's not hidden behind a panel. I'd cut the entire side out to make the window if it were up to me.

Yeah, I know the window is kind of square and boring, but hey - so is the rest of the case. I believe that a window should be easy to look through, so you can focus on the cool stuff inside the computer. I would have made the whole side into a window, it's just that it's so damn huge. You are still free to post new window ideas, though; just download the sketchup file from post 1.

The moddings to the PSU are not going to be all about the visual; the main thing is to silence it.

And by the way: Hightower it is! ;)

I'll tell you what would be badass--get another one and mod it onto the top of that one--twice as tall as the original. You'd be close to two meters tall then and you could own that name hightower.

There was a photoshopped pic going around forever of that, I always thought someone oughta do it. Maybe if you don't I will.

Go ahead, linear. I have my arms full with stuffing this case... But it's a good idea. Just make sure you have some lateral support, so the thing doesn't injure anyone.

Why use one big window? Use several smaller ones of different shapes. Maybe one window per item in the case cut just large enough to show each item.

I downloaded the trial version yesterday. It was so much fun that I used up 4 of my 8 hours... You can make things look so realistic.

You can download the sketchup file and have a look. I just made it...

To say that, you had to quote my whole first post!? :hehe:

That's cool, actually. It gave me an other idea, using the arch from your window, but loosing the mickey mouse ears :D. I will draw it in sketchup when I get the time.

By the way - here's a pic of what I want to use for lighting the case:
