The tree in my front yard (i think) is called a "Flowering Japanese Tulip"

when it blossoms (which is now) it drips sap down, and our driveway is right under the tree. our windsheild is a mess.

is there anything i can do to stop the sap dripping?

take a chainsaw and cut an inch or two into the trunk all the way around. kinda like slittting someone's wrist though. Itll stop the sapa nd kill the tree. wootage. maybe you could cover your windsheild in cling film like you put onleftovers after dinner and when you go out to use the car just peel the layer of cling film off.

your kinda in a hopeless situation unless your willing to lose the tree.

:hehe: And there is something I can smack my dog with or rub on him to stop him from breathing...

The other dude was right, you basically have to kill the tree.

Just get a car cover, or move the car a bit.

Has it only just started doing this (unlike previous summers)? I ask because there's a huge tree in our front garden that does this (its a lime tree) and it's totally natural for it to do that.

I know that in some places in the world in order to harvest tree sap people bore a small hole in the tree and stick a peg in so that the sap leaks out of it and drips off the peg into a bucket. its not as damaging as a 2 inch chainsaw cut around the tree and might work but i dont know if it would have any effect on your particular tree (like if it will work or if it would kill it)

Get a carport. Park in the street at the curb. Get used to cleaning off your windshields.

umm you could look up the tree and see if it is a natural thing...

If not the tree has been damaged some time in the past and hasnt healed properly. If you can try and plug the hole where the sap comes from, the sap should seal around the plug, the other option is, I believe to chip of the offending branch and paint the end with (I believe spraypaint) it forms a skin that holds the sap back until it plugs up by itself...

the tree has done this since we've lived there (10 yrs) but until recently, we've been able to park in the garage.

but the door broke and we can't afford to fix it. (the metal ribbing going across it tore, and the whole thing sags when it's up.) and it has also become a storage space for my brother and sisters bikes and scooters (they each have 3 bikes! why we don't just toss two of them and save the best one eludes me) (they were old bokes from family, friends, etc.)

my dad says i have to clean the car now. help me please!!!

    Blueshift, your movie rocks!

This is completely natural for a tree to do.... its a by product of transpiration. The amount of sap will tend to depend on the rate of transpiration (linked approximately to heat and humidity.)

RTT: Lime trees are RENOWNED for doing this and the sap is slightly acidic and attracts wasps. I lived in a street with lime trees for 13 years and always got the job of washing my dad's car. It isn't fun getting that stuff off!
