I just wanted to have a moan about how dam annoyed I am about maplin electronics . I ordered my cathodes, Just like everyone else and they go mumbling on that they have been discontiniued How can this be seeing that everyone is buying them! I just dont understand - So I look in the local maplin store, and they just say the same thing, they are not going to restock with them I just dont get it. All I wanted was to get me mitts on a couple of cathodes, but no. I will finish off by saying how bloody expensive they are aswell, rip off or what? If anyone would like to help me find some other, less expensive, better service, electronics store in the uk then please here! ahhhh, glad I got that out the way for the weekend Cheers Blueice BTW when I say mappers I mean Maplin :rofl:
That would be very kind of you - All you have to do is wrap them in bubble wrap, bung them In a tube and stick a VERY FRAGILE sticker on the side
Not 100% true about them being discontinued blueIce. The CC have been Temporarily Discontinued until they find a safe way to send them. They were having such a high percentage of returned ones they were selling at a loss. All stores can get them into stock, for example my store has at least four of each colour. Unfortunately we have no Inverters to power them, they are due in about 5 days time. As for being expensive, Maplin do not make a great amount per Cathode. Most of the other companies that sell them do add niceties to them like acrylic tubes to mount them in and the little leads to connect them to your PSU connectors and some sellers even add housings for the inverters. These things knock up the price, that’s how they choose to make their money. Fly
Thanks for the info Fly! Many other companys such as Pcmods manage to even ship them in from the US without breakage, so they have found a way round this problem. My store didn't have any cathods If there is any way you could send some down that would be a large help I need one back cathode and one blue if you've got them. I think the price is a factor behind the safe dispatch of the CC by other companies. Maplin has also looked at the possibility of charging more for the CC to improve the packaging but of course before passing any expense onto the customer Head office has to consider all options. For example they may only stock them in the stores, as there has never been a problem with the courier from head office to us. If you want your store to get you some, I suggest you speak to the manager of it. Tell him that you know somebody in head office and he told you that all he has to do is request them directly from the stock controller, he can authorise their dispatch. If you want the power inverters, which I'm sure you do, you will have to wait a week or so for them to come back in stock at head office. Unfortunately I can't really be supplying these by mail outside of the official channels for fear of a telling off from my boss (who is very tolerant as it is). As a consequence, as always, my posts are by no stretch of the imagination the official stance of Maplin UK just an educated opinion. So please don't mention, "Fly on Bit-Tech says..." because that would preclude me from passing any other information to the Forums. Fly
