Has this happened to any of you?

I've got a friend in my Steam list that I don't remember adding. They have a nonsense name, a blank profile, no games..nothing. But somehow they have 38 friends (none of which are shared friends with anyone else in my list).

And yes I have unfriended them since taking this screeny.

Apparently there's a huge wave of scammers on Steam right now. I've received at least 6 friend requests in the last few days (as opposed to normally never) of people I've never heard of.
    Just ignore/block them.

Are you absolutely sure you didn't accidentally add this person?
If you are, I'd change my password, just to be sure. Accounts aren't supposed to just show up in your friends list without you explicitly allowing them, so if you didn't add him, someone else did. (or you/they found some very obscure bug or exploit in Steam, but I don't think that's very likely)

Did you purchase any games from sites such as kinguin that were steam gifts?

Edit: I am Commander Shepard and this is my favourite shortcut on the Taskbar :D

Every day I get 2-3 invites from random people, all of which have 1-2 games at best, are ranked Lvl 1 (account level).
If you accept the invite, you get spammed with a generic message (either to go to a site, or to add their friend for a trade and link you the steam account that is to a fake website, or try to get you to click a link to download a virus/keylogger to your PC)

It doesn't matter if you personally know Gabe Newell and have him on your friendslist, and he's been there for years, if someone messages you a link, a .doc, a .scr or anything else in a message, ignore the **** out of it and report it as a phishing attempt or account hijacking.

I REPEAT! NEVER, EVER, FUDGING CHEESECAKING EVER, CLICK A LINK IN STEAM CHAT.

    edit:
*especially if you have hundreds/thousands of $$ worth of virtual items in your account*
