Using the lowest-rated Radeon 5xxx-series card would allow you 3 monitors (2 off DVI, 1 off DisplayPort) at a time, so 2 cards would get you 6 monitors. I don't know how the tech's going to improve in the 6xxx series, or whether any of the lower-rated cards have been outfitted with the Eyefinity6 setup (or similar) - may be worth digging around for that info before committing to a motherboard switch?
There's the SAPPHIRE HD 5770 FleX http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=25903 & http://www.microdirect.co.uk/home/p...5770-1GB-FLEX-GDDR5-PCI-E-2-0?source=googleps
That new card is £140. I was hoping to get a new motherboard and second low end card for that. Getting that card would leave me with 4 monitors, and atm i have an alright for what i need 8800GTX taking slot one.
Oh, forgot to mention. I run Linux, i don't know how nice drivers work with each other as i've only ever ran Nvidia cards on Linux. That looks pretty ideal though, no power and fan less as long as it doesn't get too hot.
A couple of the Asus P45 board have three PCI-E slots: P5Q Deluxe P5Q Premium P5Q-E I'm not sure if you can run them all at the same time though.
^The third slot is physically a 16x but it only has 4x bandwidth, meaning you can put a low-end 16x card in there and not worry about it.
Something like a low-end 8 or 9 series, 8600-9500 or so should handle the monitors if you can still find them. They should be pretty cheap too. I'd also look into a 5450 if it wasn't for a linux rig.
That one's neutered beyond the level i'm comfortable with but i guess it *should* work. But then 30 quid is a lot to ask for one of those.
As i can't find any other boards for sale, i'll let the suggestions run for 24hours then probably opt for the deluxe.
Having a quick Google and seeing those cards coming in at around $200 i don't feel that one would fit within my budget and would restrict a future upgrade.
