With as much filing as you do, you should have the forearms of Popeye the Sailor Man.

With a file. WITH a FILE! That crazy amazing! To bad that bit of work has to be hidden below, but the accent light from underneath will be a spot on nice touch! Human CNC :D

Popeye the Sailor Man agreed Ah ga ga ga ga ga wheres ma spinach to perform some human CNC :D.
So inspiring to persist with normal tools & get good at using them, thanks for that oldnewb without logs like this many more would be turning to CNC, your a piece of proof that amazing things can be made manually :), but soo much file work I'd have to leave it alone for a day or 2 to refresh when I get to the point of arrrrgh I can't stands no more Ah ga ga ga ga ga .

    Thanks for the comments. :thumb:

The power/reset switches could have gone in a dozen places but the problem
was really the length of the switches.

So I have settled on a position that's convenient and free from issues.

First some holes are made in the back of the large cable channel, and then the
positions of the holes are transferred to the plexi cover.

Then an opening cut. I used normal drill bits and jigsaw blades to cut the plex,
that is, the tools I use for aluminium.

And I'm happy with this solution. :)

I approve! That's an excellent location for the switches.

That filing work is outstanding, not just the accuracy from using a manual file but for sticking with it when your hands must be aching! :thumb:

I really should invest in an ok jigsaw, if I tried cutting plexi with the one I have it would shatter it to pieces has no speed control just all out aggressive full power :duh:.

Nicely placed switches m8, bit by bit it just keeps getting better :thumb:.

Such a subtle place to make such an impact. I really think it'll work well with the light you're putting underneath. Could you take a stab at describing what speed you're cutting at with that jig saw. sounds silly. But every little bit I can get from you is a big help! Going to be running into this soon. A little more ammo in the can so to speak!

Nice. The question is, do the outer rings of the switches glow or not (ie. LEDs?)?

Thanks for the kind words everyone. :thumb:

Thanks, that cube only took an hour and a half to file as you see it, and more generally,
I don't have aching hands because I always rest for a few minutes when required. ;)

I've never adjusted the speed of this jigsaw, though the speed is adjustable. But I have,
and do, adjust the pendulum action. This has several settings and is very useful. In thick
material, by using a high pendulum stroke, straight cuts are much faster, though you lose
accuracy. This tool is made in China for a local hardware chain, it cost less than A$100 and
has seen a great deal of use and abuse. It looks as if it will soldier on for a lot longer too.
I've read all sorts of things regarding the cutting and drilling of plex and I only really have
one thing to say about it: When I cut or drill plex I do it very carefully and slowly, I've
encountered no problems using the tools I normally use to cut, file and drill aluminium.

    Yeah, they are illuminated switches.

Perfect location for the switches, and the acrylic diamond is a unique touch also :)

I was actually sick of the site of those vandal switches being used on builds, but you have made them look elegant. Your work is very good, looking forward to seeing the end result.:jawdrop:

oldnewby, I thank you very much. Those "Old Soldiers" seem to hang around a lot longer than a bunch of the latest and greatest. Again, Thanks for your response.
