im looking to get a new screen to attach to my laptop via dvi and at some time in the future a new desktop, this screen will be used for gaming, movies, tv and anything needed for my studies (bachelor of information technology). The main things im after is something thats going to last, preferably 8 bit (im guessing my current integrated laptop screen is 6bit, is there anyway to test this?), definitely want a widescreen, im intending to hook up my old dvd/vcr player via composite (i think, i get confused between composite and component) would be nice for a HDMI port as well for future expansion. I am highly tempted by the dell 2408 but the price is a bit high for me, i very nearly purchased a dell 2407wfp-hc while they were getting rid of them, but i didnt have the $$$ in time, so im guessing a 20in is going to be my best bet, but theres is sooooo many to look at if you guys could be so kind as to give me some possible examples that fit my wants/needs that would be awesome
i just swapped my 22" acer TN for a benq fp241w this morning. ~$200cdn cheaper than the 2408wfp, but still an 8 bit panel, 500cd/m^2 of brightness, amazing contrast, and all the inputs. i'm absolutely loving it so far. bit's review here: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/11/07/Benq_FP241W/1 however, if you are planning on hooking it up to your laptop to play games, you might want to just stick with a 20" as driving 1920x1200 would probably push a laptop a bit too far. oh, and vcr/dvd is composite, HD is component
unfortuantly no one in nz seems to be stocking that benq anymore and the one place that had it advertised as on backorder had it about 300nz dollars more expensive then the dell 2408 normal price hear, would it be worth looking in to trying to get one imported from the states?
they were discontinued here too, but a bunch of the shops have just started stocking them again. and they all seem to have good quantities too, so it's not like they just found a few in a room somewhere. if you're dead set on a 24, maybe wait a bit, see if any come in. but like i said, i doubt your laptop can power a 24. i'd start looking at samsung 20-inchers if i were you.
lol i doubt this could power a 20 it struggles at anything new the 15.4's native 1280 x 800, so im mainly replaying older games at the moment (fallout at the moment, dues ex is next on the list), so atm im more concerned about the other intended uses. Is it worth risking a monitor off trademe (similar to ebay)
Composite is the single yellow RCA connector and will only pass standard definition interlaced (alternating odd and even lines), no progressive scan (both odd and even lines displayed at the same time) though. Component is the 3 RCA connectors and will do anything from standard definition interlaced as well as progressive scan, all the way up to high definition.
anyone seen a samsung 2043BW or seen a decent review? its looking mighty tempting but im failing to find trustworthy info (only finding shops and forums posts by people i dont know), and there seems to be conflicting info... What type of panel is it? Does it have component/composite/svideo input? Some place are saying it can rotate others are saying it cant, its given me a headache
