I want a NAS for home so am looking at them now.

I wouldn't mind RAID 1 and need above 259gb storage, preferably with room for up to a terabyte

    I have Vista 64bit too :)

    I've seen this:

    NETGEAR SC101T

But I've heard bad things about Vista 64 support

    Anyone know anything about NAS?

BTW: Deffo has to be a networked drive, I want several PC's to access it over the network

How about a homebrew, low wattage server? It offers way more flexibility than any NAS can give.

I just want a networked drive with RAID 1 for backup purposes, can't be bothered to faff about building another new PC, just want a nice small package that I can plug in, install drivers and away I go.

It's not really in the home builder spirit that I usually do stuff, but meh :)

The Buffalo DriveStation Duo 1TB NAS box is 'just' £160 from Amazon.

The Buffalo 1TB LinkStation Pro Duo NAS is £196.32 from IT247.

Or the Thecus YES Box N2100SM 7-in-1 NAS Server is £210 from Scan, but (according to Scan) it only accepts "up to "800GB"?

Whether any of 'em support Vista 64 or not though, I can't say?

I love my lacie especially now that the update has added upnp server functionality so i'm all happily streaming to my PS3. Sadly there RAID solution doesn't have this functionality. And yes.. they are available in the uk.

Hmm I'm torn between the cheap and 1tb pre-installed Buffalo or the nice looking Thecus that is very expensive and has no drives.

I think the Buffalo may win out

    I'm inclined to agree.
£50 is quite a premium to pay [for looks], when the £160 Buffalo DriveStation Duo has everything you need otherwise

Personally I like Thecus but out of the ones you have shown I think the Buffalo will do.

What makes you say you like the Thecus? Is it purely looks or is there some technical reasons? Just wondering if there's much difference...

I have not seen any reviews or had personal experience, so its completely based on looks.

You do realise that that's not actually a NAS unit, it's just a USB/Firewire drive...hence the cheap price.
