    Hey.

I have a viewsonic 19 inch (the expensive 4ms one). im trying to justify buying a evga 8800gtx acs3 ko. im find running it on the native res, since i could run with very high AA...but if i could increase the in-game res much beyond the native res of the monitor...will i break anything? im asking since the res's are locked, so i assume its for my own safty.

    thanks in advance!

    Kye.

You can't increase above the native res, so don't even try. Buy a GTS and it'll be more than enough to keep that thing chugging along in next-gen games at 1280*1024 for a good while to come yet.

people said that about my current x1900xt. i cant run the most recent games on highest settings, and im not cpu bound. a gtx would outlive the gts.

what if, i was going to buy a 21 inch monitor in half a years time? would you justify buying the gtx now, and wait for the monitor later?

    I agree with Krikkit

But, if you instead use the money to buy a 20" or bigger widescreen (go at least 22") you would soon be able to justify a graphics upgrade.

I could fork out an extra 200 pounds, and get a a BFG OC 8800GTX, which is one of the cheaper GTX cards, and buy http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=88221 . Its that option or i could buy decent ddr2 memory and a cheap motherboard and cpu of either intels or amd's of the latest cores. Since i only game on this computer, although the second option is a good investment, im running games now on medium/high settings.

heh, I've got that exact same monitor and I'm only running a 7600GT. I don't know how Dell is for sales there but usually you can get a great price if you wait (got mine for CA$299 on boxing day :D )

Edit: Warning: wide screens are addictive. I started with a 19"WS and now 22"WS - anything else is hard to play on now.

The dell is quiet expensive. http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Prod...ilterMaxPrice=&FilterCategories=486&OrderBy=1

some of these monitors have better settings, and 100 pounds cheaper then the dell for 22 inch. the daewood or mirai look very attractive. ill look for reviews regarding gaming on those monitors. any suggestions? im a bit excited. i saved for a graphics card in a tin for a year to offset the price of a new card, and it turns out i have much, much more then what i thought. a gtx and a widescreen lcd is an exciting prospect :D

its completly impossible to go above native res a TFT, as the native res tells you how many pixels the run in either direction i.e 1280x1024.

TBH i am thinking of getting a 8800GTS 320mb as i wont ever get a monitor with a native res of over 1280x1024 for the next 6 years at least.

A 8800 GTS 320mb and a 1280x1024 res are a perfect match in my book! lol
