Displays NEC 26" IPS Monitor for £100 too good to be true? Evidently not!

Thank you, mine is November 2007.

I'd found the Advanced OSD when I wanted to turn the LED on-light brightness down.

Absolutely... if you don't mind the slightly bigger dot pitch then go for it. As Goodbytes said, you simply won't get a screen of this caliber unless you fork out hundreds of pounds on a current NEC, LaCie or Eizo.

As Big Elf said, thanks for this - I repped you, and your green e-peen just doubled in size. :D My monitor was also registered end of Nov 2007. The condition of these monitors is absolutely remarkable considering their age, and I'd guess that the resale value of these screens is even higher than that of the WUXi2 because of the A-TW polariser (which was very expensive for NEC to implement, hence why they dropped it!).

You could probably quite easily sell one of these for £300. But I'm keeping mine, LOL.

If they were making them this good 6 years ago what must their latest models be like :jawdrop:

I'm never going to have enough money to find out :sigh:

Looked good until I saw the resolution, not bashing it etc just I find 1920 too large for that size of a monitor.

    Good find anyhow.

I wish there was a run time in one of the menus. My dell had it but I cannot find it one this, shame.

Much of a muchness, believe it or not - some might even say not quite as good, largely because they dropped the A-TW polariser after this model (and its 24" sibling). In terms of colour fidelity, the only significant change to hardware has been the introduction of 10-bit LCD panels which can display many more colours than 8-bit LCD panels but require 10-bit support at every level for this to be realised... definitely not for the fainthearted. The vast majority of people doing colour critical work are using 8-bit wide gamut displays and the 2690 is still very much at the top of its game in that arena. The 12-bit programmable LUT is a very nice feature, but I think you need to use NEC's own Spectraview software to access it.

There is a "current usage" value saved in the monitor somewhere but I think you need NEC's Spectraview software to access it, much like you need it to access the LUT. Specratview II reports a value of 1079.8 hours usage for my monitor.

Hmmm are there any left then? Been so busy lately I missed this thread (Anoying) but I have some spare cash and have been playing with the idea of a monitor upgrade for a while, a little overkill but might be useful for my photography.

I'm calling the dude tomorrow. Although card payments over the phone sounds tremendously risky, even with all this positive testimony; there's technically nothing stopping him just not sending one, is there?

It's not just some random bloke selling them, Kenny is one of the sales guys. GAR are a proper registered company. Others from here have gone to their warehouse and picked them up so that's proof alone that they are a legit company.

Why? Paying by card over the phone has been around for years and is still used extensively by most businesses. I suppose like Atomic said you'd want to know that GARC are a legit business... they aren't just legit - they're global. :D

So I've moved up from Samsung Syncmaster 24" 1920x1200 to the aforementioned NEC. I'm not sure what I was expecting as I've never really used a high spec monitor before but my first impressions were that the image (particularly text) looked more pixally - something that I've put down to the pixel pitch being bigger. That being said the colours are brilliant!

I'll be doing a side by side comparison tonight so I may change my mind once I've had a chance to have a proper play with it.

I upgraded from Dell 2005FPW (20" 1680×1050) and find the pixel pitch much the same.

It's a monitor made for replicating very accurate colour and in that sense it obliterates most other monitors, an ultra-high-resolution small-pixel monitor it is not.

My durp, should've read the auction properly! I called this morning but they're nearly gone apparently. Last one is going into an auction. Sounded like they'd had a lot of calls; that's internet exposure for you ^^

Pretty dissapointed to be honest. Kenny said he had reserved one for me while I sorted out funds, but today he said that he's putting the last one on ebay. Fair enough if I was told that yesterday, but I was under the impression I had one saved :(

Still worth following it on ebay though... if it goes on ebay as a refurb MDview 262 then the chances are it'll sell for less than an LCD2690WUXi.

I feel like I should be getting some kind of commission for getting all their monitors sold, but hey... I got one for £100. That's pretty good if you ask me. :D

LennyRhys, How did you get NEC's Spectraview software as it needs a serial?

My digital input has got messed up and now only reports up to 1280x720 as max res and I dont know why. I did install GammaCompMD but that didnt seem to work. Once I restarted it wont go higher????

veryevil, I downloaded the Spectraview II installer from the NEC website and...*ahem*... acquired a serial number with the help of good ol' google. They aren't actually hard to find.

You can reset the monitor by going to the advanced OSD, section 8 and selecting the last item "Factory Preset".
