    Hi!

I'm buying an Expedit shelving unit from Ikea to use as a deck stand. Ideally I would also like to fit my PC into one of the shelving compartments.

From what I can make out from the accessories list, each section is 33cm square (depth isn't too much of an issue as I will be leaving room hanging out of the back.)

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40198202/ this is one of the units that can be fitted into the section and from that I've determined the 33cm x 33cm requirements of the case I need.

    Currently running an i7-2600k, cooled with a corsair H70 with a single fan. Crucial M4, 1TB Samsung F3, Geforce 560Ti, Soundblaster PCI-E X-Fi.

It's all on an ATX motherboard at the moment, I of course realise that I'm going to have to switch to a micro-ATX board, this isn't an issue at all.

I just can't find a case anywhere that will fit within the 33cm x 33cm dimensions!

Suggestions welcome! I'm at the end of my tether. Don't have the skills, know how or desire to custom build anything, but would potentially go for a little light modding if need be. :)

I'm not even that bothered about it being a top of the range super expensive case, just need something to hold the components together!

    Awww... I once built a cubed case of exactly 33 x 33 x 33 cm...

Anyways, building a fitting frame isn't that hard actually, especially if you have an old case lying around, you can use the motherboard-tray and HDD-trays of etc. Just grab some 6mm HDF (more dense MDF), which is easy to work with and build a box out of it, where you can insert all the stuff from an old case.

If you still think you can't do it, then a LianLi PC-V353 would fit rather nicely, allthough you'll loose the functionality of the 5.1/4" bays.
Another case from LianLi that would fit is the LianLi PC-V354.

Yeah I've got scrap computer parts coming out of my ears (run a computer shop) I could theoretically take one of Ikeas boxes they already sell and just fit everything in that.

I'm massively lazy and incredibly uncreative when it comes to that sort of thing though, so off the shelf would be ideal. Just a shame they're both so incredibly ugly cases, gotta pass the "will the missus like it in the livingroom" test so I may end up hiding it behind a door anyway...

    I know, embarrassing. :blush::blush:

TBH for a case I'm going to be hiding behind a door anyway, dropping £150+ on it just isn't worth it.

Willing to go itx? If you don't mind trading the pci-e sound card for an external dac it wouldn't have much more sacrifice and there are plenty of cases for itx, including many that look good, that would fit inside those shelf dimension.

I know you've already dismissed the idea, but still, it sounds like a golden modding opportunity to me.

M-ATX is the way to go if you're after a case.

However, if you mount the motherboard directly or on a tray into the space then full ATX is your oyster. In fact, I don't have the precise measurements and it looks like it would be tight, but this tray looks suspiciously like it may slide in from the back like a glove.

It practically builds itself. I've been looking at Expedit stuff for a bit of record storage too... :dremel:

I was thinking one of their glass inserts. Mount the motherboard on the shelf, PSU et al below. Cut outs for I/Os, fans etc. As long as it fits and doesn't catch fire you'd be laughing :)
