World of Warcraft isn't exactly a very demanding game. And that system isn't eactly something you should sneeze at. Combining those two, I can't see why it wouldn't tear through the game with ease. Heck, such a PC would be fine playing next-gen titles like F.E.A.R. or Oblivion!
I'm not so sure it would be great for FEAR etc, most of that hardware is almost old-news by today's standards, it's mostly a year old or so. That's not to say it's not a good system, it is. In fact it's very similar to my system which I am very happy with. It's just not exactly bleeding-edge. But yes, fine for WoW
Old news by todays standards but considering that on a Amd Xp300, 1gig HyperX, and a geforce 5700le I can still play fear med quality with some settings bumped up with litterally no slow downs says a lot more about the marketing of these products. If you have the money to throw at it why not get the latest and greatest as it changes every few months just to get nothing other than a small bump up in quality in certain games. In terms of practicality; hardware such as mine only becomes obsolete becuase of the rate they are pushing new technology out the door with nothing other than games to stress it for the average gamer. Most people are using X2 processors and getting the latest intel chip just to do their m$ word and excel homeowork on it and maybe some music. Theres nothing wrong with that if you want to spend the money on it but by a long shot its not needed unless you want to stay close to current only to be able to upgrade frequently. Many people can get away with rigs such as mine doing much less than what i still use my machine for. I get away with burning, ripping, compresing dvds and audio, using multiple office applications, playing numerous games, and constantly watching movies and listening to music while doing any of the above. I still have no problems or slow downs that have made me think I need to spend $2000 so that I can get a 30sec time on SuperPI or the like. That machine that Dawny has spec'ed out will play WOW with maximum settings or something is wrong becuase I play at max settings for WOW on my rig. He should also be able to play games like Fear, HL2, and the like with more than decent quality. The only things that I would change on the list would be a few brands here and there only becuase I prefer some brands over others simply as my opinion and possibly a slightly higher video card would be all that is needed in terms of what the first upgrade would be. With a board like that you can add pretty much any of todays top processors for AMD on there when they drop in price as the newer stuff comes on and you will still manage to stay current in most gaming or application needs. that is simply put my opinion on the matter. If you feel you need to have the 7800XXX or x1800XXX then im sure you have your reasons for it. However, if you are out to save some of you college money and get something that will still get you by dont fall for all the hype in what you have to have to play at ultra quality/totally better than just going outside/ looks more real than your girl friend/ quality becuase it all depends on what you are looking to get out of it. I know personally that my girlfriend is not impressed that I can OC my xp3000 from 2.1ghz to 2.3ghz but some people online will say w00t! or good job. But doing that is not whats most important to me so i dont need to go over the top with it.
Yeah I totally agree. My PC does me fine for everything I need, which doesn't really include gaming. HL2 looks good on it at a decent res, as does CS:S (obviously) so I'm happy. But from what I've heard, it would struggle with FEAR and nice resolution/quality. But am I bothered?
Arkuden great mate thnx, well i'm just planning to use this pc till i go to university, and cant really stick with the old one i have right now which is about 5 years old , may be i should try and save some money, like getting a 754 board or some thing. it always seem so tempting to get the little bit more expensive one, kind of all adds up in the end .
That wont exactly work since you're buying DDR2 for AMD. And id recommend a 6800LE over 6600GT I wouldnt say you need an extra soundcard either.
200Gb SATA150 Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 10 (7200rpm,16MB) NCQ AMD Athlon 64 3200 32/64Bit CPU S939 "Venice" 90nm Retail inc Heat Sink Fan & 3 Years Warranty Asus A8R-MVP S939 ATI 200 Crossfire DDR400 SATAII Raid USB2 GbE Lan 6Ch Audio 1 Gb (2 x 512Mb) Corsair TwinX, DDR, PC3200C2PRO, Cas 2, LED Activity Lights well changed abit, thnx for Bindibadgi pointing it out i can save 30 quid. and i dont need a motherboard that can run two gfx cards. just got the gfx card left to buy, thinking about buying it off ebay , might be a stupid idea but hey. friends told me to get the stuff off www.scan.co.uk, because their customer service is good, anyone have any other recomendations it would be nice
