a good friend has a slight `omg its hot` issue with his cpu

    its a C2E QX 6850

under load its over 100 degrees.

and he`s cyrrently using a Titan Amanda on it!

any suggestions on ANYTHING to help bring the temps down?

    A new CPU? :hehe:

Seriously though, it sounds like the Amanda is either faulty or not seated correctly. Or there are too many volts going through the chip. A Freezer 7 would keep that chip under control even overclocked/overvolted to a sensible degree.

    Undervolt it?

Those original core 2 quads did run hot but not that hot.

    Something is wrong somewhere.

I see that cooler has a tec on it.

Swap it out as a first call I bet something has died.

Water Cooling an option? Even a mk1 h50? I don't know if the newer h80 et al come with 775 brackets.

    Tranquillo
    Hyper 4
    Freezer 13

Any of them will tame that CPU, amongst many others.

That Titan cooler is either broken or the mount for it is. As I remember it, the Amanda shipped with anchoring cables to help support the weight - did he use these? If not, it could have broken the mount.

i'll second the gelid tranquillo. I used one in the rig i did for my girlfriend which has a QX6850 in oc'd to 3.2 (400x8) and runs cool and quiet.

My vote is a closed loop WC unit to be honest. Might be hard to get the right mounts unless you go second hand.

Why not sell the silly hot Extreme Edition (im guessing this is a B3 stepping?) and get a cheaper cooler Q6600 and clock that to 3ghz?

Would no doubt pay for a new cooler !

    Edit:

My bad the 6850 is a G0 so shouldn't be that hot!

I had one of these until recently and I had the Tranquillo Rev.2 on it which kept it nice and cool - that's running HOT... The Tranquillo is nice and quiet, too
