Hello again. I'm in need of a new heat sink but can't seem to find a conclusive answer for what my socket type is. I'm running an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+. I think it's a socket-939 but I'm not sure and don't want to mess it up. Sorry for such a basic question. Thanks for any help given
Under the FAQ section of AMD's website the Athlon 64 X2 3600+ is a AM2 not 939. Double checked on Newegg and the Athlon 64 X2 3600+ is also listed as a AM2 socket. Every single Athlon 64 X2 on Zipzoomfly is also a AM2. Apparently the AMD Athlon 64 X2 / X2 socket type depends on the core. Wikipedia* shows core and socket as: Athlon 64 X2 Manchester (Socket 939, 90 nm) Athlon 64 X2 Toledo (Socket 939 , 90 nm) Athlon 64 X2 Windsor (Socket AM2, 90 nm) Athlon 64 X2 Brisbane (Socket AM2, 64 nm) Athlon X2 Brisbane (Socket AM2, 64 nm) I guess all the 64 nm cores are AM2 with the exception of the Windsor which uses the older 90 nm. Never built a AMD system with the newer chips so this information correct? Try CPU-Z on your computer and see what it says your socket type is. *http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athlon_64_X2
Curse AMD for making me look like the fool I am, they've never forgiven me for being a turncoat when the P4 came out
