anyone know any method that i can add another activity led in cdrom without have to take the old one out?
if i use solder my new led in the old led's pin, its light is so thin, is there anyway to fix it?

i had this prob it is probably due to the new led needing a higher voltage than the cdrom board is providing check with a multimeter to make sure and if that is your problem either use a lower powered led some sort of relay, depending on the cdrom you may be able to connet the positive terminal to the 5v power from the molex and use the origanal ground which the board connects when the light is on, or there is something similar using optipositers? in the electronics section for powereing led arrays of the hdd activity header on the motherboard i am sure this could be converted to work.
Hope all this helps and good luck, me i went with a lower powered one but thats just me.

Zapwizard can correct me if I'm wrong, but if the LED connection on the CDrom is active low (meaning that it switches on the ground channel whenever there's activity), you could connect the + leg of your LED to a 5V sourse (through a resistor) and the - leg to the minus leg of the LED in the CDrom. Then they will both shine as bright as they are intended.

well... if you are connecting the extra LED in paralell with the original it will be weaker (or don't light at all) because the current is already limited...

if the original LED is, say 30mA, and you connect a extra LED that needs 30mA each will only get 15mA... this is if borth are about the same, but often they draw different current and just one of the will glow...

as Bård said, ofthe the signal is active low. this can be measured... just measyre the voltage between ground and LED ground... if this alters with the led it's active low...

if it is, you can do as bard said.. if not you'll have to change resistor on the PCB or use a optocoupler...

i tried to connect the +leg to the power sourse from the molex, but it always light up

then it is probably not active low...

you can still try with a optocoupler though..

This is your third warning about posting in the correct forums. This is also a repost of your thread here (which I originally moved from Mod Guides to Electronics.)

Consider this an official warning - I don't want to seem harsh, dude but please refrain from cross-forum posting.

    Thank you.

I am closing this thread - please use the one in Electronics.
