Hi, Im new to the forum. I recently built my first computer and i have everything up and running smoothly. Im still checking the processor to see if its warming up cause im really paranoid about it overheated. My last processor was a victim of heat and i dont want to lose this one too. Im still opening the case to check if its getting warm and I really want to find a program to monitor system temps. I've tried MOBO Monitor 5 and my motherboard isnt on the list. I've even tried every DFI board in the list and nothing. I also have Everest and it doesnt show system temps. Can someone help me find a way to get some temps from my CPU. Oh ya I almost forgot its a DFI KM-400MLV with an AMD XP 2600+.

    Thanks
    Bryce

Well, there are a few options. The first is to get a program to read it for you. Try MBM5 first, it's the easiest to work with imo.

You can also buy or make external temperature sensors, and place a probe under your CPU.

Still, MBM5 is the easiest and quickest to use, so I suggest using that first.

Oh, and btw, welcome to the Bit-Tech forums :).

Download MBM, the latest version has an autoconfig, just select your mobo and off you go...
Also, not 100% sure but dont think everest shows system temps which could be why you can find them, sissoft sandra should tell you, as will "speedfan".
If they dont then touch test it.

I already downloaded MBM5 and it doesnt have my MOBO in the list. Sorry I called it MOBO Monitor. Everest does ready temperatures its Under Computers then Sensors ive seen it on other computers but mine doesnt show up. I just tried downlaoding that speedfan and it doesnt work either.

    Thanks

If MBM5 doesn't detect your mobo then you could try speedfan, it also has an auto detect.

Have you tried looking in the BIOS yet? I know your probably looking to monitor through windows, but as a starting point if your that concerned about temps have a look at the BIOS "PC Health Status" screeen.

Also what problems did you experince with Speedfan not working?

I kinda looked around in the bios but I couldnt find anything. Is PC Health a main tab like CMOS Settings or is it tucked away somewere. With that speedfan program I opened it and it would so all of its detection stuff but the only thin that would show up on the main reading page is cpu usage the other boxes below it were empty. I set all of the clock info but my DFI board once again wasnt in the list. I did the search for SMBus devices (i dont know what that means) and three devices came up $50, $51, $69. I dont know if they do anything.

I was searching around Everest again today and I noticed that under CPUID Features Thermal Monitor and Thermal Monitor 2 have no check mark and say Not Supported. So maybe thats why I cant get any temp readings outta any of these programs. The weirdest thing is that my MOBO has features to shut down the computer if the processor gets to hot so it does have a temp sensor.

The board should have sensors if it can be shut-down... Have you tried flashing the bios at all? A newer revision may help...

you would think so but some older mobos although having the sensors have no way to access the values externally. get a thermal probe as was suggested 2nd post, they are quite cheap from over-clock.co.uk
much more accurate readings anyway as you can place the probe wherever you want rather than the CPU sensor which is usually under the socket meaning the CPU is usually in fact a few degrees hotter.

i too had a problem with motherboard monitor. I have a cheap pcchips motherboard which isnt listed in mbm5. If you cancel (or skip i cant remember) the auto config (pick motherboard) bit you can set it up manually, with all the sensors that may be temp ones in a drop down menu. I just did trial and error with them until i found a reading that was consistent and stable at around the right speed. I added the CPU load to the system tray and ran a stress test that ran at 100% cpu useage, and checked the temp increased, then decreased when i stopped the test.

As a guide, my AMD Athlon XP 2600+ Barton core is running at 35 degree unloaded and 42 degrees sustained load. That is with it overclocked to 2.07GHz, but with a case fan also blowing over the heatsink. Before the extra case fan and without overclocking it was running at about 50degrees loaded and 40-42 unloaded.

Well thanks for the help guys I greatly apreciate it. I guess im gonna end up going with an external temp sensor. Like captainanabolic said some sensors on older MOBO's are there but just cant be used.
