Hey y'all. First time poster but long time enthusiast. Well I am a complete n00b when it comes to case modding and painting, and well I need y'all's help. I own a P182 gun metal black antec case and I love it but I hate that inside how it is the ugly gray. If y'all have seen teh antec P182 SE mirror finish it has a beautiful black interior and I am so jealous of it. I decided agaisn't buying the mirror finish is that I didn't like the mirror finish and it was too expensive. Now my question. How would I be able to get my inside... to look like this... Im in no way experience to case modding or painting and I've been searching and reading for the last couple of days and now have a idea on what I need to do but I am unsure of myself and I want to know how y'all would go about doing this? Thank you so much for any help. I look forward to reading y'alls replies.
the first question is can you take it all apart with out removing any rivets. if the answer is yes, then i would suggest buying some sand paper, primer (white so you can see where you have and haven't hit the metal) and black matte spray paint i'd rough up the metal with some bigger grit paper, then spray a coat or 2 of primer depending on how it looks, either go ahead and spray your paint or sand down any runs (using 600 grit) i don't think sanding (or wet sanding) in between steps is that big of a deal since it is only the inside of a case hope this helps edit: dont forget to tape any screw holes, b/c you don't want paint to go in there and make it a pain to screw parts in
Thank you all for all of your suggestions. I've decided to purchase the Ultra flat black spraypaint along with the primer (2xcans each). I hope I have the right supplies to get it done. I went out and purchased besides the sparypaint and primer is goggles, gloves, sandpaper (220 320 400), sandpaper block, spraypaint pistol grip, tack cloth, and a degreaser. heres a pic. here is what I've done to the computer case so far now I need to plan out an action strategy. After reading all of y'alls suggestion which help so much, I think that I am ready to begin during this weekend. please let me know if I forgot something or if something is amiss. I will check back with y'all. Thanks again.
tvh, I wanted to post the exact same question Do you have to sand the old paint only to rough it up? Or do you need to remove the paint completely? Also, if you are painting on roughed up paint, why do you need the primer? Should it not stick ok to the old paint? I also have never painted metal before. tvh, I hope I am not hijacking your thread. --Orlix
might want to tape up the motherboard risers and see if you can't remove that 5 1/2" bay with the holes in the side, but other than that it looks good
Right now I am sanding the full case and the other components. I haven't thought of removing the 5 1/2 drive bay siding and I will see If I can do that. @orlix, don't worry about hijacking the thread its for all to be informed. Im in the same boat as you are in. I was wondering how much sanding must I do before primer? should I sand (400grit) just enough to show scratches or should I get as much scoffed up as possible? Im not quite sure, any suggestions? @perkins teh modder, I got the case through buy.com it was on sell and after shipping and such it was only 120 USD. Though I did strip it to the bare minimum and then some.
have just painted the inside of my case i used steel wool to scuff it up not a lot of scuffing is needed but primmer will make sure the paint will stick as not all paint will stick to metal
Oh make sure u don't paint some plastics as they will "melt" or something like that, well mine did anyway. Strange should of used primer but could not be arsed.
