I am looking for one of the fastest, larger, quiet hds. What does everybody recommend. I prefer hd that is Sata. Thanks!

Samsung SP2504C is very fast (THG review) and quite quiet. Seagates are known for sluggish speeds, but also are fairly quiet.

That's an old drive now. I have 2 of those, and can promise you they are very good indeed. They've never missed a beat in almost 3 years, and i use them hard. They're totally silent when spinning/idle, but are clearly audible when seeking. However, it's spin noise that's annoying, not hearing it woek when reading/writing.

If I were you though, I'd get the newer 7200.9 drives, which are both faster, quieter, also have NCQ and are Sata II - apparently, they'll give even raptors a run for they're money.. Problem is, they're not available yet, but have been officially released, so can't be much longer.

I checked out the Samsung HD the specs look nice I probably would have gotten a HD080HJ. I am looking more for a smaller HD because it cost less if I do RAID-0. I do some DVD editing and also large photoshop pictures. Just tired of waiting sometimes. Samsungs are a bit hard to get in the States, unless it is in OEM computers. Segates, WD, and Maxtor are everywhere. I noticed also on the Segates site don't really have SATA-2 or the SATA 3g listed clearly either here.

NewEgg carries all the Samsungs right now. Bought my 1604C there. Got the 2504C before Egg carried it. I have noticed that the 2504C's seeks are louder than the P80 series

I guess i should have been more more careful, look for the Brand instead of the model number.

    SAMSUNG SpinPoint P80SD Series HD040GJ 40GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM - $50.99 X 2 ~ $102

    # Model #: HD040GJ
    # Item #: N82E16822152023

Got a rating of 1 on newegg but it looks like a bad drive or human error. Any suggestons?

    OR

    SAMSUNG SpinPoint P Series HD160JJ 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM $82.00 X 2 = $164

    Leaning towards the 320 GIG.

Definately go with the more space. You'll chew through it faster than you know. I just got a 300GB and it's already about 2/3 full!! Well, reencoding movies at near-lossless quality does tend to eat space quickly.

Yup, looks like an odd-ball drive. Rest look good:

Either option would be fine and perhaps the same exact drive (only difference being 1 vs 2 platters). P80 series is what you'll often find recommended at silentpcreview.com. If you like the Seagate's 5 year warranty, then you could always swing that route. They're both quiet drives but the benchmarks are why I bought the Samsung.
