Creative's driver issues were primarily concerned with the early days of Windows Vista, as MS significantly changed the way that audio is processed. As you are running XP, that won't be an issue. As far as headphones go, I would seriously recommend Sennheiser HD555s as being brilliant.
I still wouldn't go Creative personally... after all that Daniel_K stuff... I kinda boycott them. I'd get an Asus Xonar, the cheapest DX model is best price/performance.
