    Hello guys...

First of all I hope everything is okay with all of you... I really miss everyone and being here ;)

I'm not around just because I don't really use computer any more or have time or mood for it any more..

After long time with high end systems and moding :) now days I don't even surf the internet ;)

    Okay the problem is :

I really don't use computer for like 2 years more than, Facebooking, Surf Internet, Watch Videos on youtube, Collage work ( OFFICE ), And the most important Thing is downloading media.. so the rig is on 24/7 for downloading media files and watch them....

I don't game or do high end work... No more than photoshop just for private pics editing....

My Rig is a HEATER for real .... JET when coming to noise... And Power hungry... And USELESS!

Now I Saw a MACBOOK WITH uncle... Amazing when comes to everything.... And I always hear that OSX is Stable ;)

So the thing I'm Thinking to get a MAC MINI and Hook it with my LCD... I like it and it's perfect ... No HEAT, Noise, And Low Power Consuming.

So What do you think ?

But I'm lost on one thing.. I will not give up my rig because for sure i will need it some times.. but what is the perfect idea to have a DATA Place ? like i got 7TB of HDS connected to this rig and for sure the mac will not be able to hook any thing with it :( so what do you think is the perfect idea?

Thanks alot and sorry for being off for long  Take care

My computers, which is a gaming PC, you don't know if it's on or off, by sound, and that is in a really quiet room. It's THAT quiet! And temperature is really cool. Oh and has a back light keyboard (same for my desktop :D).
No BSOD or crash here and that's from 2 computers. Must be magic?! Oh wait.. no, it's because I buy quality products, do proper research, know that I always get what I paid for, and I don't cheap out :)

My laptop 14inch, a Dell one, is a bit more powerful than the similarly specs 13inch Mac Book Pro at the time of purchase, was cheaper, and is so cold operating, that you can put in on your laptop no problem, 10 hours of battery life, super ultra quiet (fan only spins if I play a game), and even then, heat management is so excellent, that I am able to overclock, almost twice the speed, and the laptop has no problem handling the extra heat. System came with a 3 year warranty (Apple only 1), PLUS 3 year next business day on site service. That means Dell tech comes to my place, at the time I want exactly, to fix my laptop, starting from the next business day of your call to Dell. So, which such service you always have your laptop in your hands. Laptop is also in metal (magnesium alloy, better than aluminum (absorbs vibration but doesn't lose shape easily, so a drop minimize or avoids a dent)

My mother computer has a fanless computer.. I mean FANLESS. It's a bit old, so you can get more power for cheaper today, but anyway, it's the the Nvidia ION platform. It feature a Geforce 9400M, Atom Dual core 1.6GHz 64-bit, 2GB of RAM (can put up to 4GB), comes with a wireless N card, Gigabit Ethernet, DVI, VGA, HDMI, and has a nice, small, compact, fanless 65W power supply (like the ones from laptops) that comes with it. 0 fans needed. And it's about the size of your hand opened, well the mac mini. Oh and it has eSATA too, to provide the same internal SATA speed, for your external HDD drive enclosure (pre-build or self built).

Today, you can hack up something a bit bigger than a mac mini in height, maybe width a bit (depends on the case, really) but more power to it, and cheaper too, good sacrifice.

    Truly amazing!

What I am saying... is that well:
1- You can fix your computer and make it dead quiet. You can even have the same and better screen than an iMac, easy.

2- You can do anything, and even pre-build computers you can find awesome products. Of course a 300$ HP laptop, is going to be night-and-day in term of build quality, engineering, cooling, and battery life (in this case) compared to a 2000$ one, even from the same company. You paid more, you get more.

3- The only good product I see form your computer is your motherboard.
-> Case is crap, CPU is an amazing heater, RAM I don't know what you have, GPU is hot.. and you have 2 of them, that means they go both at fullspeed to stay in sync (so more heat), sound card drivers are crap (I know, see my signature, I suffer as well... that's my fault in thinking that Creative has changed... I will changing my card soon), PSU is WAY OVER KILL, and not efficient at all. It's not even 80Plus certified (bellow 80% efficient), so a lot of wasted heat, and energy. Heatsink.. I don't know.. but I am sure the fan can be changed for a higher end one for quieter operation.

Monitor? Well don't get me started.

Also, computers consume what you use..

Ok anyway, here is what you can do.. this is just 1 possibility among many others.
I am going to try and salvage your computer.
New Mac Mini is 800$ U.S. More powerful CPU yes, but the rest is not. Why not the Mac Mini at 600$ U.S. You'll NEED 4GB of RAM. Even web surfing. Windows (or Mac OS) consumes ~1.0-1.5GB of RAM already. That means you can run your web browser.. and the OS will start moving stuff to the HDD, and your computer will be sluggish.

Mac Mini also doesn't come with Windows... so that's added costs to consider.

Ok so this is what you can do:
-> Case: Fractal Design Define R3
    [IMG]
The case, not only looks kick-ass, and aluminum, but feature sound damping panels, easy to work with, good cable management, and has HDD vibration absorbing system to reduce system further.

-> Fans: Noctua 120mm fan put on the back of the case (replacing the one that comes with the case), and in front. Set all fan at MINIMUM speed (you don't need more). Also change your heatsink fan with a Noctua as well.

-> Remove 1 graphic card and sale it or something. Stay with one. Already it's totally outdated for modern games (hence why crossfire or SLI is not worth it.. it's only good if you drive multiple monitors, or large monitor (27, or 30inch with much higher resolution than 1920x1200). Clean the graphic card with a can of compressed air.

-> Let's keep the sound card.. and get the latest drivers.. if that does not work out well or cause audio issues, use 1 version older.

-> Change your PSU, with something more appropriate.. Ah the Corsair AX 750 or 850.
This PSU is FULLY modular, so you put the cable that you need only.. reducing wires which can block. This PSU is 80+Plus Certified GOLD. This mean that the PSU is 90% efficient. Its' so efficient that the fan does not spin when your computer is idle, and is barely warm after a full day of operation.

-> Get Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Got a legit license of XP or Vista? Get the Upgrade version of Win7 (yes you can clean install: See method #2 here, works perfectly for everyone... I got similar instructions from Microsoft them self, when I contact them as I got a new HDD, and did not feel like putting Vista first: http://www.winsupersite.com/article/windows-7/clean-install-windows-7-with-upgrade-media
In the case you don't know what WIn7 is... it's Microsoft best OS since Windows 95/98. It runs on ANYTHING, SUPER smoothly. Got an old Pentium 4? Put Win7 and it will fly!
Super stable.. so stable that 99% of BSOD are hardware related (something is broken or makes it behave badly). No one is true Admin (even you), so most viruses and malware don't do ****, as they can't... no access to the system. Got picture.jpg.exe? Well open it.. asks you for admin rights.. you know something is wrong. Windows Media Player 12 is superb, you won't need to use anything else, and Win7 comes with a large variety of codecs in both 32 and 64-bit flavor. Codec pack no more (well almost.. but I doubt you'll them.. if you need one, come back here to know some nice Win7 optimized codec to get excellent experience and not issues)

To learn more on Win7 really cool features:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/videos
    (see video's)

Windows 7 can be extended more with the following great and excellent software for free:

** Microsoft Live Essential 2011 (a suite of many small software (32 and 64-bit available), including photo viewer and gallery, and smart sync software (syncs over network, when it detects the other systems on the network).

** Editing/Viewing pictures of a high-end digital camera. An available free Camera codec pack, allows you to view/edit additional formats such as TIFF, and RAW camera file http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=26829

** Microsoft Security Essential (available in 64-bit for greater performance!). The best free Anti-virus around, and detect malware and spyware for you. Will not slow down Windows boot-up, nor your computer. Yes it's free.

Also Windows 7 feature power management system for your computer, which controls your system speed based on load. So this reduces heat, system noise, and power consumption.

Are still a student? You can may be able to get it REALLY cheap, or even free through MSDNAA

-> Let's get a monitor that is not an insult to humanity... how about the Dell U2311H.
    Learn more about monitors: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showpost.php?p=2776290&postcount=13

    Monitor recommendation list:
    http://forums.bit-tech.net/showpost.php?p=2776656&postcount=20

-> Let's change your keyboard as well... because moneys allows it, especially if your get Win7 for free or really cheap.. something like a Mac keyboard... but that doesn't suck.. one that doesn't feel you are hitting concrete when you type... Oh I know:
    http://www.logitech.com/en-ca/keyboards/keyboard/devices/4740
(ignore the price on the site, you can get it MUCH cheaper in retail online stores)

-> Get quieter and possibly faster HDD's: I highly recommend and is one of the fastest HDD around: Western Digital Caviar Black 7200 RPM 1TB.

Also when you cable manage, you want to do something that looks like this (this clean):

All part recommended is stuff that I experienced and/or have or a derived of (different model, same series). So you know I don't say crap, and I get more reassured that you'll get a great experience.

Buddy, I really really don't know what to say.. No Matter what I said I will not be Able to thank you sir :) Going to replay you with many useful info that you want ;)

    - My Current rig is from 2008 And It's my main and everything, everyday using computer. The main goal when I built it that time was gaming.. I used to be 24/7 gamer. Was hardcore computer user, Back then I used to be a teenage high school student :)

    - Now it's 2011 and I'm 3rd year Electrical And Control engineer student, Life is different when you start to study engineering.. You lose your interest in life and any kind of entertaining tool or activity.. Also the time and mood side play big role on the problem. Been 3 years I didn't even think to play a game or keep up with new hardware etc.

    - Kept using same PC All Those years Till today. Only Change is I reached 7TB OF TOTAL SPACE... Filled up with media data, And Now days I need new 2TB HD to add up space... Never Hard Problems or crash or any kind of software problems or hardware... windows up for days and didn't format system from a year ;) I know what I download and I know how to deal with it...

    - The PC is running 24/7 in my room for years and HD life is 20K Hours... so Imagine ;) Main Reason and use is Downloading MEDIA... And Keep them and watch when i'm on mood.... Also have some private data and collage work of course... ( Word, PP, excel, PS Lite, C Lang. )

    - I got my self 2 years ago a laptop Sony VAIO VPC EA16 Wich is Core I5 2.4, 4GB Ram, 500GB HD, Radeon HD 5650.... I wanted it for collage work at the collage itself, and portable activities and moving around. The Shock Truth I didn't even opened it and used it for 3 times in the 2 years... No need for it.. All my work at home and collage no time for fun and no need for it... So it's a big money lost and it's outdated... So this don't count

    - I was thinking about the thin Cilents or the Atom PC But I saw the Mac Mini for 600$ and the OSX Looks perfect and useable with me and I don't need more than it... The Mac wanted a ram upgrade you are right ... so 700 $..

    - Now The Solutions you said ;)

1- How Can I fix my computer ? I got The true extreme 120 heat sink and 4 X Enermax 120 mm cluster fans running at 1.2 K and my computer idle at 50C ....

2-No Need for pre build or laptops, I Know what I'm doing and I'm not just a noob user ;)

3- I see All hardware is HIGH END and Outdate and hot as fire...
-The motherboard I feel it's crap, Just fine to handle the hardware...
    - Case is crap and who cares...
    - CPU is an amazing heater and more than what I need!
    - RAM I got 8GB Running 1066 with no problems. 2GBX4 sticks
    - GPU is hot hot hot.. 3870X2 Which is 2 builtin ... can't get rid of one.. And I Don't even use it. And Right they are on crossfire...
    - sound card works with np, And I think I'ts the only good thing on my rig lol. I'm music fan so i got it hooked to hi fi system.
    - PSU is not only WAY OVER KILL, and not efficient at all. IT'S A DEVIL. Fan Making the louadest noise you can ever hear.. And I don't load it ever.. and it make noise and heat.

    - Monitor? what the problem ? it's fine 22" Samsung LCD... :) Don't mind it really.

    - about 8 Hard Drives a total 7TB SPACE ... running hot all the time ... 30 - 35

    - I got original WIN 7 PRO 64-Bit ;)

here some pics to get idea of what I have and I hope you find better solutions after the picture is more clear now :) thanks sir

I use Macs for everything except gaming, when I boot into my windows OS. Yes you are right they are stable etc and the Mac OS is fantastic.

The other advice you have been given is great - but only if you have the time and energy to spend sorting your PC out to make it quiet and cool. If it was me, I'd sell the PC components and get a bit of money back while you can, then buy yourself a Mac.

The newest Mac Mini with SB will be fine for the tasks you want (except PS may be a little slow if you're doing complex things). But you are right that it won't fit 7TB of disks internally! However, you can get matching HDD enclosures for USB or eSATA etc. Even better - you could even get a NAS enclosure so it's accessible over LAN if you leave your Mac off.

IMHO the best thing about buying Mac hardware is that they maintain value for years. Whilst PC hardware loses value rapidly within 6 months, I could sell my 3yr old Macbook for 70% original cost. Hope this helps

(PS if you buy new from Apple - DON'T get the RAM upgrade from them, it's way overpriced. Just buy the correct memory and install it yourself, you will save a LOT of money that way!)

    **
If you are definitely keeping your current PC, sell that gfx card for sure. They are hot as hell and no way you'll need that power if you're not gaming anymore. And I don't know how your CPU can be idling at 50c with that cooler... Is it overclocked? I'd go into BIOS and disable 2 cores, underclock it and undervolt it if you want a dramatic temp drop (because I guess you don't care about performance any more!)

Oh ok, I see.. you did a very good job, and have Win7 already excellent.

I thought you had system stability issues as you said that the Mac mini was stable... I assumed that your computer was not.

Look, I am not going to deny that going with a Mac Mini is a valid solution.
    What bugs me is that:
1- For web surfing and using Office, you don't need to spend 800$.

2- You have a fully functional computer... it would be a serious shame to essentially throw it out. Sure it is loud, but it's fixable.

3- You might spend hours on discovering MacOS, and search for tweak tools and hacks, as you can't do anything on it, not even to turn on the mouse acceleration, Flash (all web browser) and HTML5 (on Safari) is barely working. Well for one Apple doesn't really care about HTML5 (what one say and what does is different), and poor software quality support, is due to the small market share of the OS. Any software that has a Windows version, the Windows version is superior by far.. even Firefox.
Also, http://gizmodo.com/5819418/mac-os-x-lion-this-is-not-the-future-we-were-hoping-for (and this is from a very Apple sided web site)

4- You have parts in your computer that are several year warranty and some others life time... and now you are going down to a system that only has 1 year warranty. Plus, everything is designed that you buy a new system every year. New Mac OS Service pack that you need a pay a high fee for? Oups, sorry won't run properly and smoothly on you system, you need a new Mac, and your not getting your money back for that OS purchase.

Like if you want a Mac, it's because you WANT A MAC. Not because it's nice.. it's because you NEED one. And web surfing is not a reason. Sure, it's compact and nice but is it really worth it? I think a bit larger computer, which you can similarly spec for cheaper (and longer warranty) and just as quiet, is a better option. But even better is to continue to use your fine system.

Ok so now that i have a better feeling of your system (seeing pictures and better understanding what's wrong and what isn't)

    This is what I suggest.
-> First, let's find the sound problem... while the system is running put your finger in the MIDDLE of the fan (the center part.. not the blades). and apply a slowly pressure to slow down the fan.. see which fan is loud for replacement. I have a big feeling that it's our GPU the prime target, and the case fan... but also the HDD's... HDD's are loud, especially 7 of them. Right now, leave 1 HDD plugged to power (and be it a 7200RPM, and not a 10 000RPM)... just so that your computer is quieter. If your HDD is loud.. than perhaps a quieter one, or even a laptop one (mac mini uses a laptop one, hence why it's quiet), can be an option.

Replacing the needed fan, and getting a much lower end card will significantly reduce system heat. They are many fanless graphic card that are faster than Intel Sandy Bride GPU from Nvidia and ATI. Some have fans, but they heat up very little when you don't play a game, so it's very quiet. Anything from a Geforce 210 is nice upgrade in term of quietness. You can perhaps even find a Geforce 9600 fanless. Plenty of power for your HD video, web surfing, heck even gaming in the case you ever get a bust of gaming. (not max settings of course... but medium or medium-low setting is totally possible).

    - Undervolting the CPU is great way to reduce system speed. A few millivolts makes a large difference. My computer (see signature) is undervolted quiet a bit. The problem with under volting, is that it really depends on how lucky you are. Some chips you can't even undervolt, and some you can go quiet far, but beside that, it also depends on where on the silicon the chip was. If it was in the edges, the silicon is weaker, and needs more voltage to be stable. So, under-volting might create stability problems or BSOD's. Lower the voltage, the less stable the CPU is. BUT, hang on, something to remember, Intel (and AMD) uses the same specs for every chip to assure a larger success yield. So, if your chip was somewhat at the center, you can undervolt a lot without any problem. The only problem in doing this, is that you might need to be patient, as you drop the voltage, use the computer for a moment, stress test it a bit, see how it goes.. stable, good, if not, increase a bit the voltage.

Undervolting is not dangerous for the CPU.

Alternatively, or in combination, as suggested above, you can also under-clock your CPU as well. This will reduce help.

Your PSU can be changed to a better and quieter one, is that is a problem. You don't 1000W, especially if you get a low or medium-low end graphic card. Even a 750W one is way over... but ideally, you want that your computer uses about 50% of the power of the PSU, to ensure maximum efficiency, and as your not pushing it... it creates less heat and noise.

Thanks for replay abezors I really appreciate it...

Yeah Mac for everything else expect gaming is perfect...

See the problem is not about energy or time itself. The problem is I can't find big diffrence solutions with the current pc.. I'm not going to sell the current hardware because it will not get any money back in here :)

So I was going to pay the 700 $ for the new mac and just plug and play... The Spec is perfect for any task i'm doing now and the PS is light image editing :D not graphics maniac :)

Sure I was going to get it and buy my self at least 4GB ram for sure ;)

I don't think getting 7 HDD enclosures for USB will be a good idea ;) Also a NAS enclosure Is Like 300$ for 4 rack and not available in here.

value point of view as I said in here is not goal and no one care... that's why my expansive rig at 2008 was one of kind and for massive prices... nowdays no one want it ;)

I tried every thing to get the pc idiling at lower temps but no hope... I lapped the cpu and the cooler. AS5 Paste, Thermal rings to add more pressure.. Dual 120 enermax, Good case cooling... everything and temps stay at 50 range... +-5

Also How do I disable 2 cores... never heard of that option really :) Also undervolt is a true but it didn't make the cpu stable... It's running now on lowering multi by C1 thingy... but it's useless. No Speed or temps difference

GoodBytes I don't know what to say again ;) Million thanks :)

The reason I said mac stable etc. because it's safer and cleaner ;)

Yeah i agree with the bugs...

800$ for office and web is a lot of money, and in the same time i have fast fully functional computer as you said ;)

Agree with mac software thingy ;) but most of my current use is nothing more than the available stocky on mac ;)

Mac is ******** in acc parts thingy and have to pay for every screw and sticker ... SHAME and lame and costy also I don't want a mac for owning a mac :D I want more comfort computer

Sound problem is not from the fans ;) they are soundless! running at 1.2 K 24/7.

VGA Idling at 40 % fan speed which is not that loud.. ( Not noticeable ) And temp of both cards 55C! IF the fan is lower than this speed it get too hot and reach 80C!

All of the 7 HHDs are WD green and 7200RPM And I don't think they make any noise at all really. And i think windows ture them off ;)

Getting a Lower VGA will lower the temp and noise and power, BUT you forgot the CPU Problem that is too hot and no soultion for it....And the Enermax PSU is running at 1.4K speed ! But IT's hot ! because it's huge monster...

When I Undervolted the CPU It impacted the stability and was crushing all the time

Lets say I don't want a expansive solution :) But I want to have pice of mind ;) I have High end pc it's like AN 2000 BMW 6V and I want to get a 2011 V4 KIA ;) that's why i don't want to get rid of it i will just put it on the garage... and i want the new one to be efficient... But I don't mind having the old one as efficient as new and same performance that will keep me going....

    Another thing that

I got a new MA78GM-US2H With AMD Phenom X3 8650 , No ram or any thing else...

Should I consider getting a ram 4GB DDR2, PSU, Case and use it ? Move HDDs to that pc and make it main for current use ? ( office web downloading ) and HD media.. ?

    Thanks alot

Sure.. you can even use the RAM from your current computer, especially if you are not going to use it. Put Win7 on it with your current license, and you can get a nice box. The case I recommended still holds, it's also available in different colors (white, silver and titanium gray)

CPU is very good, might be better than what you have now (and cooler)

Sound damping panels is a big plus. And HDD vibration absorbing rubber system is great to reduce system noise.

Oh and get these (really cheap):
They might look different, based on different brands, a bit tricky to install, but this thing reduces fan vibration like crazy. Even if your fans are quiet.. it helps even more.

    Good idea ;)

And yes I got those for the fans ;) 4 for each and it's tricky to install that is right ;)

okay I will see what I can do ;) Thanks a lot for the advice ;) you are the best ;)
