    :(

Recently got my Noritake 2x20 VFD (CU20025ECPB-U1J) shorted.
Accidentally dropped a screw on its back...
This teaches me to use insulation tape on it back :( (next time!)

    So it won't work now.
And I think either the Capacitor or the Transistor is blown.
    As they get very hot.

I have emailed Noritake-Itron engineers but still no response.

So, does anyone know the spec of the two capacitor and the transistor?

    Thanks!

Any markings or serial numbers on the components would help a great deal.

If you've caused enough to damage to, a comparitively, rugged component such as a capacitor or transistor then its very likely that you've damaged a more sensitive component such as an IC.

I'd keep up trying to contact Noritake Itron, i've dealt with them quite alot and they seem to be reasonable, i've had most success using the phone though.

Yes... I also think the chip might be damaged...
But since capacitors and transistors ain't really expensive so I think I should try.

There is no smoke no small, all resistors are not burnt.

    As for the marking...
    Transistor: 006 and then YW
    Capacitor: 0 then RZ(M) then 105oC then A0029.
    The oC is celsius symbol.

That don't mean much, do they?

Yes I will keep on contacting Noritake, thanks.

I've googeld the serials and not having much luck, i think a new controller board might be in order but i'll keep trying to find those component ratings.

Give Noritake-Itron a ring, they get a lot of emails and are pretty slow to respond to them... they won't ignore you on the phone (and they normally fix displays pretty quickly/cheaply).

    Rob.

p.s. the transformer normally dies in my experience (round capacitor like thing with 6-8 legs).

Thanks. First thing to do tomorrow - ring them.

Is that a transformer not a transistor?
Because I thought transformers only work on AC not DC. (I'm a noob).

I've also Googled... also searched on Farnell and Rswww, but found nothing. Thats why I ask here :D

    Yeah it's a transformer.
