I'm looking for a new cooler to replace my stock Q8200 cooler.

    -S775
-Low profile- it needs to fit in an mATX pre-built case
-Pushpins- I'm not bothering with taking the motherboard out
-Quiet- my computer's loud enough as is

Your choices are limited. It's a toss-up between stock cooling, and the Noctua NH-C12P, as far as I'm aware. One's a beast and costs £50, and the other's free. Neither are great for the temps, but if you twiddle with fan speeds in the BIOS, you can get acceptable results from the INtel cooler. Just don't overclock. :p

EDIT: Yes, I'm sure there are others, but I remember some Sugo i7 build featured in Custom PC, and whoever it was tested all the low-profile coolers on the market, to find out stock was pretty much the pinnacle. COurse, there's a little more room to play with this time. Hence the Noctua.

    How about this?

Cogage are basically Thermalright and their True Spirit cooler has has great reviews, as has the one in the linkie.

I'm wondering if an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 would fit.

I don't think the case is specifically low-profile, though. I have a full size 9800 GT and normally mounted DVD drive.

What case is this? How much room is there? Are you willing to cut a hole in the side of the case?

I mean, My tall Scythe cooler fit in a mATX Dell case, it was only like 5mm too tall. I just cut a few small holes and it fit pretty well.

    Acer Aspire something-or-other.

I'm gonna open it up and get the measurements before I finalize the cooler.

I like the sound of the Skalli.
I need to see if they'd have it in stock at my local hardware store or at Fry's, though.

I've pretty much narrowed it down to either the Skalli or a Freezer 7 Pro.

Both are 92mm fans, and I'd not recommend the Freezer for a Quad. If you get us a measurement, we can start working with it better. Unless someone has an Acer Aspire they've modded, and would like to tell us about? :dremel:

Oh, just stock? Yeah, the Freezer's fine.

For some reason, I can never break away from the thought that everyone here clocks...

The Skalli is very impressive for a small cooler. Based on the results in the Hardware Canuck's review it seems fine on a quad and can even support a modest overclock.

If you wanted to do some serious overclocking then the only cooler that I can think of that would work in a limited space is the Corsair H50.

Not only does it not have any fans... I think the biggest mounting holes are either 80 or 92mm.

I don't really need serious cooling, just quiet and better than stock.

I'll be overclocking once I save up enough money for an i5 or i7 build.

I don't wanna cut holes... Parents would have a conniption at me opening the computer, let alone reattaching a massive cooler and knifing the case.

"BE CAREFUL. COULD YOU CUT YOURSELF? DON'T CUT YOURSELF. THE GAME'S ON AND I AM NOT LEAVING FOR THE ER UNTIL AFTER THE GAME."
