Well bouth it and had it shipped and got here today. Then i noticed my ext. memory did not fit and not starting to question how many other things i did wrong and need to return. Motherboard said compatible with windows 7 but i have xp? IDK totaly lost just looking for some help here on what i should return and or stuff i need to buy with it. Thank Rikaderic
motherboard will work with XP. The issue is you got DDR3 RAM for a DDR2 board... so you need to get DDR2 RAM. Rest should work
The ram is also for a intel 1366 system. you need dual channel, not tri. You're probably better off returning the ram as even if you want a DDR3 system its a bit overkill. The rest is all good. If you want DDR3 system you will have to change the mobo. Where did you get your stuff from btw?
It's always frustrating with these newbie posts - stuff we take for granted is really pretty far out there for the average users. @Rikaderic - If you're not a bot, there's quite a lot to consider. First up, as other have said, you've bought the wrong ram and need some DDR2. An 800MHz 4GB kit should do fine. You'll also need a power supply with a six pin PCI-E connector to power your new graphics card. If your original system was an OEM model (like a Dell), its PSU might not have one, or might not have sufficient wattage to power your new build. Finally, all your new hardware will work in Windows XP, but you really should consider the jump to Windows 7. After all, XP is an 8year old OS and 7 offers a BIG upgrade in all sorts of respects. A retail version of home premium is only £90 and is well worth it.
Sorry about the delay for replying but on a break down computer which has problems of its own. Thanks for the help Seeks. Domestic_ginger I got the stuff from newegg.com. For Baz yes i am a noob in many senses i use to mess with computers alot but that was way back at pent. 2 about. My friends and i built my last computer about 3 years ago and dont mind doing the installing and all, but i never bought the parts they told me what i needed. My power supply is a 550watt i have it the 6 pin pci-e that comes off the power supply. The whole windows thing i am use to old school windows. I just need to break down and learn a new windows... Maybe some year i will. Thanks for your help and been browseing your site and like how active your site is.
I really would reccomend windows 7 over xp. not just because its the latest version but also because, at least in my opinion its just better. Can do so much more and its definetly worth the 5-10 mins it takes to learn it. You really can just jump in, if you have half a braincell it really isnt much of a learning curve at all. Especially if you know XP. Yes some things are in different places and there are some weird things but you wont regret changing. If you are getting a new PC why not get a new OS?
