hello I plan to do some modding over the summer to a case basicly making it into a light weight full of mesh case requiring no case fans (relying on convection) I need to purchase some kind of rotary tool like a dremel to chop out sections of the case which is a chepo £20 one made of steel (although it's cheep I think I can make it less tacky). Anyway I have a budget of £40 for the rotary tool which I need to order off the web because been under 18 stores in the uk can't even sell me a screw driver nevermind a rotary tool. I am not sure what to look for but I fouind this draper one quite cheeply: http://www.lawson-his.co.uk/scripts/details.php?cat=Multitools&product=691 Will I be able to fit the same cutting discs that dremels use to it. Also what kind of cutting disc do I need for cutting sheet stell about 1-2mm thick? Also I need to get some masking tape online is there anyware that sells this? (i live in the middle of nowhere it's usualy easier to get things from the web) thanks for your assistance.
that is a cheap deal, also u dont need to buy the same discs as the dremel there are other compaines that sell those discs as well, and i can see that this one comes with them too. Also ususally its cheaper to buy the chips with by the bulk and when u do this the dremel and mastercraft or whatever other company u use gives u one or 2 medrals, these are the discs that hold the dremel discs, so basically the discs are universal and even if they dont fint the stick thats supplied with urs u can just purchase the pack and the mendral will come with. i have a similar machine (somethin crapy i also found for $20cdn lol) and iam able to use ne of the mastercraft accesories or ne dremel accesories. I like to stay with mastercraft tho cause they are cheaper than dremel.
Most shops I know only have a ban on knives / screwdrivers stc, not power tools. The ban is for offensive weapons, so they should sell you a Dremel clone b&q have a dremel clone with stand and flexible shaft for £30 in their stores http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/produ...277&entryFlag=false&PRODID=167478&paintCatId= If they won't sell it to you, can you not get an adult to buy it instead (in the manner of youngsters getting fags and alcopops in the council estates throught blighty)
I have that clone myself and for the price it's great you get about 100 accessories with it including cutting discs. I have found one flaw on mine and that is you can't get it to start properly unless you have the speed at full, after you get it started the speed control works fine though.
It doesn't take any type of discs.. it takes the mandrels which in turn hold the discs. I'll bet it'll take pretty much any sized mandrel you care to get within reason... I don't have /that/ model pro dremal-clone but mine is fairly simalar and it'll take practically anything.
go for a real dremel, i got the 400 XPR for my birthday and it was defective, i emailed the company and they said they would exchange it, THEY ASKED FOR MY ADDRESS SO THEY COULD SEND UPS TO PICK IT UP FREE FOR ME!!! you don't get that kind of service often nowadays, imagine if you bought that one and found it was defective on the 31st day after buying it? i got a (normally) high quality product and it was defective, now what do you think the chances of getting a defective one from a generic company are? do you think they would pay to have it shipped to them so they could ship you another one free? i personally would rather spend a little more on a better product with a company that will stand behind it. for the XPR 400 with a case, circle cutter, a few bits (including the sweet fiberglass cut-off wheels), flex shaft, and garden tool sharpener was about $99USD. there are also attachments for a hacksaw, planer, and two different router setups (a small one for light work, and a sweet stainless steel professional setup)
In the UK all new goods have to come with a 1 year manufacturers warranty, so if it is defective after 364 days they have to repair / replace it. The warranty remains valid for the duration of that year so if you have a repair done in month 6, theres six months of warranty left. Dremel offer a 2 year warranty in the UK / europe though they offer 5 years for the same items in teh US / Canada The one from B&Q is as good as quality than the dremel, and B&Qs return / replacement policy is one of teh best out there ( I've returned a lawnmower whose starting pull cable would'nt wind back, in september after buying it in May and got my money back as they didnt have another in stock I got to cut my lawn for free that year )
sweet! if the white house wasn't so "in-bed" (not for real, 'cause thats gay, and i don't think W would want to restrict his own freedoms) with big business we might have a system like that. does it apply to the US? if i bought a tool from a UK store would they still have to honor it?
yay have ordered my dremel clone. And some gogles to protect my eyes from the flying shrapnel. total including p&p £31.
lil more?!?! man i got my clone for $19.99 while the dremel with the equal rpm's was 79.99 (cdn prices) i am able to use the same discs and mendral so thats not that big of a diff altho iam worred i might not be able to use the flex shaft, and thats what i wanna get next.
its all the same really, the same size same rpm just diffrent design. Also iam using the dremel mendral and the dremel discs. How is that ne diffrent from a regular dremel?
havent seen nethin yet, but i must admit there is a huge range of attachments for the dremel, some of them cost an arm and a leg lol. I am going to purchase a dremel flex shaft soon and if it doesnt fit my clone iam going to just buy the dremel based one lol and sell the one i have, also there is a blunge routing attachement, and thats really cool. also the jigsaw attachement! (but u can buy a jigsaw for that much lmao). if the flex shaft fits i might order in a pluge router attachment also i think it will last quite a while, havent had ne probs with it so far, and i've used it alot. Also i take good care of my tools so it will prob last a while.
this is the beast that i got http://www.canadiantire.ca/assortme...<>ast_id=1408474396670271&bmUID=1121843819855 not the top of the line but i only paid $10 for it i had canadian tire money from previous ourchases (they give u like coupons everytime u buy somethin and i had $10 worth of em ) and it was on sale for 19.99 (this is all cdn) it was a good investment. i get speeds of 35,000 rpm which is only 2000rp, under the most expensive dremel, now seriously i think there is a huge diff between 19.99 and 159.99
