ok, just ripped a DVD (yes, I do own the original!) and when previewing in XMPEG I get the following:

    this happens after encoding too

however, if I view the actual .vob files in a DVD player app, it looks fine...

what causes the above effect, what is it (interlacing?) and how do I remove it?

    Thanks guys

(man, I never realised what a difference a good computer would make when encoding DivX video...I can now encode a 2 hour movie in about 3 and a half hours (and thats 2 pass encoding too!)

even if you legitimately own the video... i think it's a bit sketchy on discussing the ripping of one to divx (which is a hacked mpeg4 codec)

so for now, closing until it gets the stam of someone higher up than me

Right, since this is such a grey area (we don't really know if copying for your own purposes is allowed) i'm going to keep this thread closed.

Sorry radiator, just can't be too careful with all this copyright stuff :blah:

Try de-interlacing ... only thing I can think of.

interlacing causes lines not squiggles when ive done encoding though.

If you can enable bilinear or bicubic deinterlacing that do so!

I've never seen the wobbily line thing happen before. Probably that blasted 2-pass thing that never worked right for me. Try single-pass and see if it helps any.

Also, what program are you using to encode? Is that was XMpeg is? Try giving FlaskMPEG a shot. Works great.
