I had that problem with an old card when I pluged in the monitor when it was powered on, it blew something I ended up with a dull screen and no reds- I'd return the card.

;) You have the power plug in right? I doubt it would boot otherwise. So unplug the VGA cable, reinsert the gfx card and then insert the VGA cable again. If still no good then wiggle the cable, then try the other port on the card. I doubt it's a driver or compatibility issue, but it would be ideal to try it in a different system.

;) 6800GT should only require 1 power connector but it would be ideal to ensure nothing else is using the connectors along that single chain from the PSU. The PSU could easily be underpowered though, check the rails and post the whole spec (inc PSU). Again trying it in another PC may also help.
