Hi guys, I'l be buying the rest of my rig in the next few weeks (I already have an Antec 300, OCZ ModXStream 750W and 2x2GB Mushkin Silverline DDR3 RAM), and I'm wondering what I should get. I'll be gaming (Bad Company 2, Black Ops, Minecraft etc) and editing music later down the line with Pro Tools. I have a budget of around £500, and I don't need a monitor, OS, mouse or keyboard.
If you can stretch the budget slightly: LN28746 1TB Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3, SATA 3Gb/s, 7200rpm, 32MB Cache, 8.9 ms, NCQ, OEM £33.98 £40.78 LN36345 Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3, Intel P67 Express, S 1155, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), DDR3 1333, SATA RAID, ATX £83.29 £99.95 LN37071 2GB MSI HD 6950, PCI-E 2.1 (x16), 5000MHz GDDR5, GPU 800MHz, 1408 Cores, DVI/mHDMI/mDP £189.69 £227.63 LN37506 Intel Core i5 2500K Unlocked, Socket 1155, Sandy Bridge, Quad Core, 3.3 GHz, 6MB Cache, 95W, OEM £144.55 £173.46 Net Total Carriage VAT £451.51 £0.00 £90.31 Total £541.8

Oh wow :| I've always disliked Scan because of their shipping + scansure adding an extra packet onto things, but that's pretty awesome! Thank you!
Also I'll need an optical drive. I don't know if I'll need a 6950 at all, since my monitor is only 1680x1050 and won't be upgrading any time soon... (sorry for double post, needed to point that out)
http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=187959 There's also these guys... personally I buy from Scan, but they are worth a look. Optical drive, just buy an OEM drive... their around £13-14 http://www.scan.co.uk/Shop/Computer-Hardware/All/Blu-Ray-DVD-Drives/Dual-Layer-SATA Components... my personal advice and experience... I've always regretted when I've gone for cheaper components... yes, I have the serial upgrade bug, but now I would always try and get the best for my budget.
You can remove Scansure in the checkout but I think it is worth it if someone is buying a motherboard etc and building their first rig. If you break it, you're covered. In addition, if only gaming at 1680x1050, then a GTX460 will be all you need. Currently on Scan's Today Only page (and will be all weekend until 13:00 Monday)... 1TB Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3, SATA 3Gb/s, 7200rpm, 32MB Cache, 8.9 ms, NCQ, OEM - £39.00 1GB EVGA GTX 460 SC Super, 3800MHz GDDR5, GPU 763MHz, ShaderClock 1526MHz, 336 Cores, DVI-I/MiniHDMI - £136.79 Intel Core i5 2500K Unlocked, Socket 1155, Sandy Bridge, Quad Core, 3.3 GHz, 6MB Cache, 95W, OEM - (No HSF Included) + Asus P8P67 Pro, Intel P67 Express, S 1155, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), DDR3 2200(OC), SATA 6Gb/s, SATA RAID - £299.99 (Mix It deal) Total = £475.78 Better featured motherboard than the UD3. I assume you have a suitable CPU cooler?
If it's new... and shiny... and will make my pc just run just a little faster, cooler, quieter... generally I'll buy it... It's VERY contagious...
Haha, I get it. I wish I had the money to have the serial upgrade bug :L Until then, I'm stuck with a pentium E5200 and a 4730...
@Fingers, no, I don't have a cooler (unless you can use a socket 775 Arctic Cooling Freezer7Pro on a 1155 board)
Which version of the FreezerPro? this http://www.scan.co.uk/products/arct...-1156-775-am3-am2plus-am2-939-up-to-130-watts fits Sandy Bridge... 1155
No it's not the revision 2, it's the first one, without the back plate but the wee knobs (what are they actually called?)
Given that the 1155 runs cool, even when overclocked, I reckon a Gelid Tranquilo for £25 is the go. Nice and quiet too.
This. The latest version of the Freezer 7 Pro might also be worth considering - its even cheaper! The original 775 version won't fit in the 1155/1156 mount.
I think I'l probably get the Freezer7Pro, just because you don't need a heavy duty cooler with Sandy Bridge. If I was getting a 760 though, I'd get a Titan Fenrir or something.
Would it be worth getting this (P8P67-M PRO) at all instead of this (P8P67 PRO) since it's cheaper and still does Crossfire?
I haven't seem anything on the P8P67-M Pro. It looks like a regular P8P67, but in a microATK format? I suppose it could be ok for a budget build, but if you are going for a larger, two slot graphics card you might do better to get the full size job - This gives you alot more space ot play with in terms of putting in a soundcard or PCI wireless. Running two cards in Crossfire on that would be possible, but probably quite hot.
