So I just found out recently that me and my wife and gonna have a kid!:D We're excited. Both me and her are big time gamers and since it is a big part of our lives we would like to look at some video game names for it. We don't know if it's a boy or girl yet so any will do.

I'm sure I'll get the inevitable comical names but if you could help contribute names and if possible the game/series it is from. We're going to pick something fairly normal and that won't keep it a virgin until it's 40. Any help would be much appreciated! Current considerations -

Alucard - Castlevania Series (possible middle name)
    Tidus - FF series

Gordon Freeman Myers didn't blow over too well though lol <----this was not serious

I am editing this first post to maybe ease others' minds. Me and my wife are normal, mentally stable people with a good quality of life. I understand the questions that may arise from naming a child after a fictional character, especially considering most names are rather strange. We are simply considering the possibility of using game names as a source. Normal names that could or could not be associated with games will only be considered, although uniqueness is not ignored. By all means I know this is a worldwide board and there are some names from around the world (not video game related) that I would love to hear. I'm really up for anything game related or not, so please, feel free to give your input.

Is that really a good idea? The kid will be living in an age where video games are rife, they're gonna get serious bullying if they figure it out.

I think this is cool for pets but not for people! Give him/her a real name

Remember, I'm looking for mostly normal names not exactly looking for Cloud or Chrono lol. I didn't quite think it was quite out of the question to consider a name from a game. Don't get me wrong I don't mind laughing at naming it Big Boss but as for getting picked on about a name that could or couldn't be from a game, I don't think it's something to worry about unless it's really obvious or strange. One of my friends named his son Malek from the Legacy of Kain series.

    Francis
    Bill
    Zoey
    Louis
    Hunter

Any would be awesome and fairly innocuous. Hunter would be a good middle name.

    Nickname? Boomer.

This. It's a bit of a lame and cruel idea, tbh. If you feel *that* into games then go change your own name to Alucard or Tidus - don't inflict it on a kid who, for all you know, may hate games or get bullied for having a stupid name that references something which is considered a bit retro right now.

Besides, if you ARE going to name him after a character then the name should be one you and your wife come to quickly, which is to say that it should be from a character you both love and associate with. It should be like me going "Guybrush" because of my childhood memories of Monkey Island and how much they've defined me. It should not involve you having to cast around on the internet in search of name from the suggestions of strangers because the idea seems cool and you had a friend who did it.

Having a kid is a big thing. Don't demean it by labelling it with the names of people from Castlevania FFS.

seems we are missing the point....... Lets say I name the kid Bruce because I like batman (I don't). Okay, so Bruce is a normal name and nobody would know the difference except us. Let's say We name is Tidus. Tidus is also a normal name and nobody would no any different except us. See where this is going? I'm not some kind of psycho that's gonna name it Samus or Mario FFS! Seriously, people name kids after movies or musicians. Games are in our generation so it's not that out of line to pick a normal name from a game. Didn't quite think I'd get such a negative reaction from this..... I mean really, I've said 3 times now that I didn't want it to be strange and obvious.

    Tidus is a normal name?

Anyway, if you're going ahead with this:
    Max (Max Payne)
    Sam (serious sam)
    Guy (monkey islandish)
    Zack (final fantasy 7)

Thats just off the top of my head, can't think of any more.

Edit: Locke (ff6). I wouldn't say it was normal but it isn't that strange and can't think of much name calling that can come out of it (in the UK locke you cock but you're in america win win :D)

    Girls names? no idea.

Yes, I know of 2 people with that name. One is a famous comedian on Comedy Central.

Also, this is all being considered. It's not like it's set in stone. I hope you all understand where I'm coming from and that I'm not out to name it a something terrible. :) Me and my wife are both upstanding mentally stable people.

    EDIT:
Bam - case in point. Great, normal names from great games we like. (Why didn't I think of that :duh:)

Just call it "Adopted"... a few years down the line I'm sure they'll wish they were if you give them a stupid name.

    Tony (Stark)
    James (Bond)
Gordon (Freeman) - I know you already said this one
    John/Jane (Shepherd) - Mass Effect/Stargate
Alyx/Alix/Alex (HL2) - You could use the proper "Alexander" etc. here
    Clark (Kent)
    Lois (Lane/Griffin)

I'm sure there are loads of other reasonable names of video game/movie/tv characters that would work. I don't understand why people are getting so worked up about it tbh, it not like you would use "locust" or "master chief" or something.
