The memory on the graphics card is how much can be used to store textures, as it's a lot faster to store it on the cards memory than in system memory. AFAIK, there's little different over 128MB in most games. I wouldn't worry about shelling out more money just to get 256MB or 512MB.

M8 tbh your gfx card choice depends on other factors of your system.
For example, if your going to be keeping a mid level system (CPU wise etc), theres no point having an uber fast card, as itll be held back.
Also what res and details are you goign to be playing at realistaclly?

Answers to the above will rule out certain cards, thereby making your choice easier :)

As a general note though, I would say that best bang for buck, go for a 16pip card with 256MB, so something liek a X800XL, 6800GT or at most 7800GT.
Im actually selling one of each of those cards at the moment (was about to ebay em), as iv moved onto SLI for my 24" TFT @ 1920x1200 mwuahhaa :D
If your interested you could pick up one of them from me for about 150 notes m8. The X800XL card iv got is still sealed in its box as I never got roudn to using it and forgot about it in the cuboard lol. Anyway LMK asap as they are all going auction route tommorow.

And btw you will defo noticea difference with 16 pipes and 256MB, thats for bleeding sure. And the next gen of games aint even goign to run properly (poor frame rate unless details toned down and/or res) on anything less from indications by developers.

I would suggest that how long will you be using that sktA.
If you get like a mid-end card. It would be fine.
But if you get like 6800 Ultra . The card would kinda hold back by the
    system.

So if you don't want to upgrade the CPU and Mobo.
I should upgrade to a mid-end AGP card.
