I want to replace my CCFL's on/off rocker switch with something that looks better (aka bulgin vandal style). Something in aluminum or stainless, rocker or push-button. I have looked a 100's of switches at Mouser Electronics and Allied Electronics, but all are the cheap plastic type I have now. HELP, point me in the right direction. http://server6.uploadit.org/files/jeffrey9-IMG_switch.jpg
If you're going for a Bulgin Vandal-Resistant swtich, you'll need to build a circuit to go between the switch and the inverter. The Bulgin switches are SPST-NO momentary switches. This is a problem since you need that switching actino to latch the inverter on/off. You can either get a latching relay (translates momentary change into a latching action on the outputs) or build a relatively simple circuit involving a D-type flip-flop IC and power transistor. The second circuit is exactly what you need, only on the output you'll need to put a 1k resistor connected to the base of a beefy enough NPN transistor. A 2n2222A should be sufficient for dual-inverters, but the sucker will got hot, so make sure you don't touch it when it's running.
Another 4013 flipflop circuit here uses a power mosfet as the switcher with a belt & braces debounce system. Voltage lost across the MOSFET will be about 100mV @ 1A, which is better than a NPN, so it won't get so warm. /pimp
Honesty, am not looking to make a bulgin vandal switch latching. I am looking for a nice bulgin _looking switch, simple on/off. It seems all the nice switches out there are momentary, no matter what brand. I am not having any luck finding what I am looking for. How about places to shop for switches US?? HELP>>>>>>
For nice big alu on/off switches, check your local car tuning store. Or big hardware store's. Why do u guys need to buy EVERYTHING of the net? lol L
