Hi there guys, it's time to buy a new computer, been sitting in this same one since 2003 so it's about time to swap up from my trusty Radeon 9800 Pro Here's what i'm looking at ATM, everything is still swappable if i get any good reasons to do so. Case: Antec 182B - 116€ Power: Coolermaster 700W, Realpower M700, Modular. - 139€ Mobo:Asus Maximus Formula S775 IX38 DDR2 - 201€ (Really wanted an nForce mobo like Striker II formula but the heat problems with the 9800GX2 and the DDR3 of the 790I is putting me off) CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz 45nm - 153€ (been waiting and waiting for the stores to get the Q9450 cpu but it's still weeks off here in finland and the E8400 is the only decent 45nm cpu available, not that i'd have really seen the advantage of the quad core for awhile but it'd been bit more future proof, oh well i can always upgrade later.) Cooler: Zalman 9700 - 59€ ( could easily have gone with the box cooler for the cpu but only Tray model of the cpu is available ) RAM: 2x 1GB Kingston HyperX 1066MHz DDR2 CL5 5-5-5-15 DIMM - Total 50€ (honestly, do i need more than 2GB?) GFX: Asus Geforce 9800GX2 - 469€ (Big mama) Then i still got 2 500GB Samsung Sata drives and a DVD burner nothing special really At total it adds up to some 1347€ could still go up some but do i really need to? This is the first time really that i'm building the computer from scratch so any opinions are important for me Thanks
Hello! Good, but the much-recommended Corsair HX620 is a few euros cheaper. Also, you get guaranted quality. Do you need an nForce mobo? Some P35 or X38 based mobos would be better IMO. If you're planinng SLI, you need an nForce of course. I'm waiting for the Q9450 too. However I don't build my rig before it comes out. Yes, IMO. If you're not OCing much, you could get some 800 MHz RAM, and 2x2GB 800MHz kits go off for ~100€. Well, it's not cheap, but it definitely increases your e-peen! Also, have you taken a look on the Radeon 3870 X2? It's only a bit slower but it's a lot less in price. Hope this helps.
Check out this link from Tweaktown. It is written by Corsair, so there is a vested interest in selling more memory, but I suspect that in a year you'll be wishing that you had 4GB at least. Also, I wouldn't go with the Zalman. I'd choose a Scythe or Noctua over the Zalman cooler any day. (Oh, look. I did ) Andy
