It’s generic…It is a standard for prepping any surface for painting. Ignore the repair stuff since you are not doing any plastic work (bondo). The method is time proven and will give you a good painting surface. But it is only prep work for a paint job. For prepping the plastic front use the primer sparingly.

You may be able to remove the paint with acetone but its going to be real messy and if you get it too wet you might end up melting some of the plastic. The reason I choose acetone is the fact that it is fast drying but you can’t slop it on. You do not want to soak the paint; the idea is to remove one layer of paint at a time. When you get to the primer slow down and take you’re time and the minute you see the original case color stop. Let is cure out over night and the sand with 400 spray one coat of primer and prep for paint.

I should really go to the shop and do an extensive tutorial on prep and painting.

Rule #1: The type of paint you choose will determine how the paint job is handled.

As for the diff between painting the plastic and the metal…see rule #1.

Vinyl dye would have worked much better on your plastic surfaces. A wipe with rubbing alcohol, then spray, dry, spray, dry, spray and your done. Took me 1 1/2 hours to paint my two optical drive bezels with vinyl dye. They look great. I think the vinyl dye bonds to the plastic. I painted beige drives black so no primer was needed. For my case I used a black primer over what was a charcoal case, then sprayed it with black paint. Looks good but my mistake was cutting my winows and blowhole after I painted, and also not clear coating the case. I was a rookie then and have learned from my mistakes. The next case I do will be even better.

Vinyl dye is for car interiors i think.

I just painted my case loooks alright jsut needs some gloss and polish. Im doign the rest of the panels soon. It took a day and saning is very easy but after each coat don't sand too hard sand lgihtly jsut tog et rid of the orange pill and trying not to go thourgh the paint into the primer, which i did but covered it up.

Im doing vinyl dye for the front bezel but i might also do the interior drive cages with metallic paint that is certified.

Yes, vinyl dye is for car interiors. I don't think it comes in many colors. I needed black and it worked great. I only heard about it from other modders. When I tried it on my drive bezels I was amazed. Great coverage and dried really quickly. My drive bezels have a nice gloss black look to them. I should have used it on the entire plastic front of my Antec case but didn't know about vinyl dye at the time I painted originally.
